I guess I'm old fashioned when I am completely shocked to come to the realization that a segment of our society thinks that behavior is OK. "STFU, boomer. The rich people can afford the theft and plus they have insurance."
If someone says that to you personally, tear down their world right in front of them by painting reality for them. Start with the mom-and-pop shops owned by people trying to eek out a living. Maybe they have insurance. Maybe they can't afford insurance that covers this kind of crime. Tell them it's not poor people stealing to make ends meet. It's punk ass bitches working for organized crime targeting these stores to make profit over other people's misery.

Even if it's rich large franchises it's not them who are out. It raises insurance costs for everyone. It contributes to inflation because the stores will pass the cost onto consumers. These people have built a worldview that's completely fiction. The real world needs to crash down hard on them. Things don't work like they think.

@PhotoNinja and her Mom were traveling in L.A. in 2018, and were in a store where an incident like this happened. The security guard told them(and others standing around) to be calm, and just let them do it.

    Nucking Futs Clown world indeed.

Oh, I've tried using economic logic with them, saying that neither Macy's nor Target nor Jeff Bezos is going to absorb the loss, but rather everybody who shops for anything including and especially the poor end up paying for it. Also, when corporations get tired of individual stores running at a loss because of theft, they close them down, creating food or pharmacy "deserts" in poor neighborhoods. Response: "That should be illegal".

Beyond their inability to grasp simple financial logic, what is completely beyond me is the moral compass that makes people think that stealing is OK, as long as the person you're stealing from is "rich" compared to you. Robin Hood was a ****ing thief that should have been locked up for 40 years with no chance of parole.

What makes you think they care didly squat about your reality explanation? No explanation or painting reality will crash down on them - hard or otherwise.
The only thing that would have any effect is to give them real consequences for their actions by enforcing laws against theft - but we all know that won't happen because that's racis.
