I'd always thought it was meant to recall the rise of Hitler during WWII. The Death's Head Stormtrooper helmets, the large formations of soldiers parading about before Palpatine in Episode II etc.

The funny thing is that history keeps repeating itself.

Very interesting, and I can see the similarities.

    The most important question:

When does Episode VI start? I'm waiting on the metal bikinis......
Episode VI is "Return of the Jedi". It came out way back in 1983. Carrie Fisher did sport one in the opening scenes/segement of the movie.
(You may already know this, and I just didn't understand your statement.)

    Cheers

    ^This! Well said!!!
I have to spread the rep around but someone please get him for me.
Some of you are joking around but in all honesty if you look at what Lucas was basing his script on (ignore the sci-fi) his baseline is not too far off the mark in terms of what new know have (ie. corrupt government that is ever growing and moving towards a "new empire")

They say the Indians made use of every part of the buffalo.
My brother, dross, sent me a link to this remark. While I agree that some of you have apparently forgotten a very important (some might say vital) part of the buffalo, being a lady who was invited into this thread brings to mind the following anecdote:

A band of Apache was killing every white man it saw, so the Lone Ranger and Tonto rode to stop it. They got ambushed and surrounded by dozens of angry, armed Indians. The Lone Ranger turned to Tonto. "We are really in trouble now, old friend,” and Tonto replied, "What do you mean ‘WE?’”
