A bit more on this - It seems very similar to the tactics of anti-gun groups that want to publish every individual gun-related death. Obviously we know not all firearm use is "gun violence".

I don't think every crime committed by immigrants would necessarily be solved by a wall.

His approval rating is in the dumps. He's just trying to play a part and hope people will rally around him. Trump could take advantage of that and give him something face saving in return for something Trump wants.
