toilet paper, toilet paper, toilet paper . LOL ! Aldi's in anderson doesn't have the mega packs anymore. Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce & any kind of taco sauce seems to be hard to find. If your looking for electronic's get them now also. Just thinking about a remodel project , start looking at materials now. Certain things are still week's/month's out.

Nothing on any of those lists I can't live without. Seems like more of an advertisement disguised as a news story to get people to buy stuff they don't need.
That's what I thought, Toys, gaming systems. Who cares. A local meat guy said hamburger and pork is getting harder for him to come by. Not sure if it's widespread or not.

I bumped up my monthly Amazon subscribe and save order for Nov 5 to Oct 23rd.

Added an extra 10# green coffee beans and cburnworth's suggestion of worchestershire sauce.

Also let a couple extra items on the order go ahead and be shipped that normally I would have skipped. Avocado oil and raw almonds.

Looking at their content, both links mentioned above appear to be created by marketing companies. No food or practical things mentioned. Do you really need a new phone or gaming console? How about food stuffs or meds instead?

There was a sign on a Walgreens fridge that stated something about how drink suppliers were only providing cases and 2liters. So no singles for the fridge

So I saw this today, maybe our truck drivers can confirm this.

California has a truck ban, all trucks must be 2011 or newer. DMV will not allow mre registrations for trucks older than 2011. California has also banned owner operators. Long term truck companies are not investing in new trucks as they are all banned in 2035 as only electric trucks will be allowed.

Suppose this has something to do with the problem of moving the shipping containers?

Yards are full, warehouses on the west coast are still full, not enough drivers, no chassis are available...

I have been searching online but am not coming up with anything overly important thats going to be impacted by shipping. 100% open to hearing ideas or things that I should have extras of.

Locked in an order for a half cow. That will be ready in March. Added a few more 40# propane tanks.

Pretty set on most things but am adding some of the stuff we can live without but enjoy eating (treats, etc)

This is not quite accurate. I don't know enough about the used truck market in CA, but the 2011 date is more about the fact that trucks made before that were not required to have the aftertreatment systems to remove diesel particulate. Any truck made today is required to meet a certain EPA air quality standard. California does has an Air Resources Board (CARB) and that's where things get complicated.

CARB sets it's own standard for NOx and GHG emissions for California and what they are proposing for 2024 and 2027 would be stricter than what EPA is proposing. So a truck that's EPA compliant in 49 states, would not be compliant in California. Engine makers have to figure out whether they make an engine that can meet CARB compliance (more expensive) and then sell it in all 50 states or if they need to have a CA compliant version only. There are also a handful of other states considering adopting the stricter CARB rules. Obviously fleets don't want to pay more to meet stricter emissions standards they aren't required to meet if they aren't based in CA.

The idea that fleets aren't investing in new trucks due to electric mandates in 2035 is false. If anything fleets in CA are ramping up purchasing between now and 2024 because they don't want to pay more after the CARB regs go into effect. Engine and truck production is already extremely high and can't keep up with current demand because of supply chain issues and chip shortages that are affecting the automotive industry as a whole.

Battery electric is simply not viable for heavy duty long haul trucking. The weight of the battery bank needed to power the truck takes up about half the payload capabilities, meaning you could only haul about half the weight of what a semi is able to pull today. It's not economically viable. Then of course you have the challenges of limited range and lack of charging infrastructure needed to move goods across the country.

There are natural gas engines available today that can meet the future CARB regs, but they are mainly used in local and regional haul applications. They have same range capabilities and similar specs as diesel engines, but the lack of infrastructure is the biggest hurdle for long haul. Fleets using natural gas usually are return to base type applications. They fuel up at a depot in the morning, make the runs and then come back to the depot and refuel.

Just yesterday Cummins announced plans to develop a 15-liter natural gas engine for long haul trucks, but until there are natural gas fuel stations along major interstates it will still be a challenge to get fleets to move over to it.

Posted about that on the shortages thread...

The trucking issue with California LA ports, ie the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB), is that all semi tractors have to be current with new California emissions standards. As a consequence, that mean trucks cannot be older than 3 years if they are to pick up or deliver containers at those ports. This issue wipes out approximately half of the fleet trucks used to move containers in/out of the port. Operating the port 24/7 will not cure the issue, because all it does is pile up more containers that sit idle as they await a limited number of trucks to pick them up. THIS is the central issue.

Looking for a used kerosene heater, then kerosene fuel jugs, and kerosene. Need to get windshield wiper refills soon. Need to stock up on pet food.

Just thought of this, going to get supplies to insulate the windows in this house, since heating costs are likely to jump this winter. Some extra wool socks, and blankets.
