...and I still have all 10 of my fingers!
Just kidding. I've been looking for my first revolver for a while and wanted something cheap in price. After a long search, I found a good deal on a Taurus Model 605. The 605 has a 2" barrel, J-frame sized, and the cylinder holds 5 rounds. I was a little nervous given Taurus' reputation, but gave it a shot. The lockup was tight so I figured 'why not?' The previous owner admitted to shooting only one cylinder of ammo and it looks it. The stainless finish is pretty decent and it feels good in my hand.
I finally got out to the range this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. It was surprisingly accurate! My father has a Ruger SP101 and we both agree the double-action trigger is better (smoother, lighter) on my Taurus. I'm still sort of shocked and still wonder if there wasn't a trigger job done at some point. The single-action is the about the same for both. I was worried that I wouldn't like the small sights, but I had no issues with them. Practicing with self defense drills was very instinctive and controllable, even with .357 loads.
I'm keeping it loaded with Magtech Guardian Gold 125 gr. JHP. I've seen some great reviews online and don't doubt it'll perform. .357 target loads were manageable, but the Guardian Golds and hot 110 grain XTPs I shot were not exactly pleasant; I would probably feel guilty letting a new shooter try my pistol.
Long story short, I am very happy with my first revolver. It will make an excellent nightstand and concealed carry gun for me. I was a little nervous of the Taurus name, but I would definitely consider another Taurus revolver in the future after this experience. I'm still waiting for my rapid fire video to be sent to me, so you will have to settle for these in the meantime:
