I think if he's dead set on a .45 and he likes the feel of your 226, I can't think of a better gun for him than a 220. I love 'em, especially the P220ST stainless. Gorgeous gun, great balance and feel. :yesway:

I really liked my p220, great gun. Are there better guns out there? Who knows, let him try several and he will pick what is right for him. Take him to the range and bring a variety of different guns for him to try out. I just did theis with some friends the other evening. We all had a great time and there were 5 new guns either bought or ordered. A guy who brought a p226 and p250 for the others to shoot ended up buying a new gun and went home with a different brand.

    Suggestion -

    HK USP in .45

12rds of 45, Lighter than the 220, IMO a better trigger, and many trigger variants to suite your particular needs.

The sig P220 is the modern benchmark for semi-autos. Any full-review of a large caliber semi-auto will compare brand X to the Sig P220.... Why? Because it is he high-water mark.

I love mine and I place it's accuracy above my SA 1911 Loaded.

My duty gun is a Sig P220 and I have no complaints about it. Works great during all sorts of duty drills, never had a hiccup with it. I certainly do trust it with my life. But don't let your dad get rid of his colt 1911. Talk him into keeping it or passing it on to you (or me if he wants an adopted son ). He won't go wrong with a P220.

I really like these, however my cousin got a 220 45. acp. equinox.......nice gun but when we took it out shooting It was quickly noticed that his $1000 item jammed namely on the last round, it would fail to feed, jamming the roundabout half way in the feed ramp. Now they may have fixed this by now but this was late summer it happened with us, ,, anyway SIG contrary to what we had heard from several people, had excellent costomer service free prepaid ups from them there and back and he had it back literally in less than a week...
we have been out a couple times since with no problems with the exception of one time when my G/F was shooting... it was scary familiar being it jammed the last round, but has not happened since so we hope it may have been caused by a limp wrist by the lady...
SIG apparently polished the feed ramp for him and messed with the shell exctractor,
Not downing the gun as I say I really like the full size, and am not downing the equinox just shareing my experience
If I was looking for one I would just make sure it has the external shell extractor as from what i understood it had somehting to do with the internal extractor on some models

Here is my 220 in the middle.

:D A little big for CC, but I wouldn't mind takng it to an OC event.

The 226 feels different than the 220 because the grip is slimmer on the 220. The 220 is a single stack (8 rounds) and the 226 is a double. It'll give him more of a 1911 feel than a 226 feel. Amazing gun none the less. Definately keep the 1911. Selling guns is counter productive:cool:.

One thing you might want to check out is the Earnest Langdon 220. It has a different trigger and is a bit lighter. Overall a very nice gun. Hope this helps!
