Shot a 308 out of my 270 on accident

I was at the range and was sighting in a couple of rifles. I was shooting a 308 win and a 270 win, I grabbed a 308 and shot it out of my 270 win by mistake. I was lucky and didn't blow up the gun. The primer blew out and I fire formed the brass to the 270. The target shows the 308 in the upper right. The other shots are after the mistake.

I'm shocked that the .308 bullet actually left the bore!!!!!

I would've loved to have seen that bullet.

I have a Remington 721 in .270 that a good friend traded to me. If I go to the range with it, it and its ammo are all I take. I am deathly afraid of loading a 30.06 into it by mistake. For me, it is an odd caliber. But since It was treasured by my best friend and traded to me, I can never sell it.

I am sure glad you are OK. Many have made this mistake over the years and paid a price for it.

I am going to say by getting swaged down to about 87 1/2% of its original diameter.

Maybe the amazing part is that the barrel held it's own. Seems like it could have ended much worse.

It's kind of amazing just how far bullets will swag down to get through a bore... Go look up iraqveteran8888 on youtube and what they shot through a full choked 410.

I do know that a 300 blackout will not make it out of a 5.56 barrel though.

Amazing story, I would of thought that the bullet would get stuck in the barrel, but now I have learned something today. Glad you and the rifle survived.

Props to you for sharing. Many would have tucked their tail and hoped nobody noticed. I grew up hunting with a 30.06 while my dad shot a .270 and every morning while loading up he made us triple check our rounds.
