YOURS. If you don't want your kids or self around it then don't go.

I might actually agree... I am pro-choice afterall... I just don't want to see any hypocrites tell me that its the parents rights to subject their children to second hand smoke, but preach how an unborn fetus should have rights.

This is totally irrelevant to this particular conversation though. If you want to start another thread i will possibly participate.

I won't be starting any debate threads here... Its hard enough to stay out of them, let alone be responsible for starting one :):

The discussion is whether or not a store owner should smoke in his shop. No arguments, it is obviously his right...and yes I am responsible enough for myself and my children to decide whether or not I want to shop there. However, I'm not 100% convinced it is a right that isn't worth at least discussing.... nor am I completely sold that the government would be wrong to mildly regulate that right.

I'm not a big government guy usually. However, I'm also not against the government exploring the possibility of protecting the rights of those who don't have any in this case.

This is the essence of this country and I find it funny that so many have comments like "this is America... he should smoke where ever he wants"

As for abortion that is another matter all together. However, if its a valid argument to bring up the rights of a fetus when discussing the validity of pro-choice then I think it also fair to bring up the rights of minors in this case as well.

I personally feel that as a store owner, you should have the right to set your own policies... just so long as you are willing to follow the guidelines. When it comes to smoking, an activity that DOES in fact affect others... then to protect children from stupid parents, you should not be allowed to have children under the age of 18years old in that particular room.

Kids shouldn't be allowed in smokey bars or public smoke rooms (like the smoke room of an airport)

I don't want ugly people to be allowed into my store, or fat people, or short people, where does this line of thought stop. Here is a quote that may help.

First they came for the communists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

    Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

STOP IT NOW. If you don't like it make a flyer or brochure and let the parent make that decision. It isn't your business.

ugly people, fat people, jewish people... all have 100% control of themselves...

    kids don't.

Again, I am not proposing law... just discussing it

What you are saying is that kids should have no rights and or be afforded any protection from the poor choices of their parents. I disagree.... If kids were able to choose their parents, then I wouldn't have the same stance.

The parents are responsible for the kids. If Dad wants to run in and make a purchase from a known smoker in a gun store. Then the kid (pending on age and weather) can chill out in the car. leave the bat on turn on Tune disney and let the kid chill and listen to some toons, Hell give him a comic book, or anything written by carl sagan (if you want educational)

The kid can chill while dad makes his purchase. If dad wants his kid to learn about guns and how to conduct himself in a gun store then bring the kid in and he can learn that not all places are a safe, foam, protecting little bubble. The kid can observe the real world.

You leave the welfare of children solely into the hands of parents and you will no doubt get all kinds of results. Parents will bring kids into night clubs, strip clubs the secret porn room in the local video store.

We don't live in a world where every kid has perfect parents... if we did, we wouldn't be having this discussion, nor would there be a need for laws of any sort. We would all just be perfect delicate snowflakes... or whatever you said before

This guy is a FLAMING lib. He thinks he knows better, and that all other parents are idiots.

So he will make laws that HE thinks will save us from OURSELVES.

Kick him off the forums says I.

You know what I find intriguing...

I find it odd that the same persons who dislike second hand smoke also tend to have no problem stuffing Junk Food down the throats of their little snowflakes. I also find it odd that the same persons think that idling their vehicles all day is less harm to their little snowflakes than one person smoking...
