Kudos to Ruger for reviving Marlin. I’ve recently acquired a new Marlin 1894 in .357 magnum. It is very well built and it’s fit and finish is as good or better that older JM Marlins. It shoots incredibly well and is a pleasure to shoot. I’m sure the 336 will be no less of a nice lever action firearm. :ingo:
Nice score, i've handled several of the new .357's, a very handy rifle and like you said the build quality seems top notch on the ones i've looked at.

I do like the Rifle, like Mgderf said, I remember them at the lower price, so the $1200 sticker shock is tough.

Below the 336 was a plain version with a painted birch stock called a 30AS that was sold through department stores. I remember thinking long and hard and not spending the extra $60 for the better Marlin 336. Something about having my son go hungry for a couple weeks and his pregnant mother wanting go to the Dr. Funny how those little details get in the way of American walnut wth checkering.
Buddy got one at Service Merchandize (30AS) and tried it out w Remington Accelerators.
It was not a good combo LOL

I would imagine if it has a crossbolt, the hammer is only two position. No half cock.
It says “half-cock hammer” in specs.
No need for a cross bolt safety but it’s there.
Some enterprising engineer might come up with a “delete kit” that eliminates the safety and puts a saddle ring mount in its place. :dunno:
