Rick pledges a "War on Pornography"

Rick promises to "vigorously enforce" censorship and anti-1A legislation that will placate the concerns of lazy parents who want a Federal Nanny State to perform their parental duties.

Enforcing laws against illegal pornography | RickSantorum.com
Congress has responded. Current federal “obscenity” laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier. Rick Santorum believes that federal obscenity laws should be vigorously enforced. “If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so.”

    3obq9w.jpg

I proudly support the efforts of the War on Illegal Pornography Coalition that has tirelessly fought to get federal obscenity laws enforced. That coalition is composed of 120 national, state, and local groups, including Morality in Media, Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, American Family Association, Cornerstone Family Council of New Hampshire, Pennsylvania Family Institute, Concerned Women for America, The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, and a host of other groups. Together we will prevail.

I wish the President would focus more on the economy and getting our country out of the poor house and less on worrying about some dude jacking it on the internet.

I mean really, who is it hurting? I can appreciate Santorum and his faith, but he is going way overboard and if he gets elected anyone who happens to disagree with him will not be loving life much. He is the ultimate in hypocrasy. He is all about your rights and your opinions as long as they are exactly the same as his.

Its dangerous to use his moral compass to govern everyone. Something tells me if the shoe was on the other foot, he wouldnt be so adamant. If christians were the minority and atheists were the majority and they wanted to pass laws making the bible illegal. I doubt he would be for that. So what if he likes to read the bible and so what if Joe Smith likes to read Hustler. (no I am not trying to equate the bible with porno)

Just what we need is another war on something that only affects a few. Can't wait to read about "porn cartels" and the mass killings based on the sale of illegal porn!

That would have been purple if it wasn't so sickeningly possible.

For many decades, the American public has actively petitioned the United States Congress for laws prohibiting distribution of hard-core adult pornography.
Really? Well if the "public" wants it, it can't be wrong. (Kinda sounds like the Brady Bunch and their take on what the "public" wants.
Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.
Somebody's been reading his McKinnon and Dworkin. I thought only left-wingers talked like this...?

I agree. The whole concept of trying to control the public is Anti-american and unbiblical. I believe in trying to change a person's heart. ... their actions are between them and God.
This guy just doesn't want to get elected apparently.

Funny, I was just thinking today how there are not enough people locked in American prisons.

Keep growing that Police State, Rick.

I don't believe Rick's claims about increased violence are based on anything other than his imagination.

I've read that the opposite is true.

    How the Web Prevents Rape
All that Internet porn reduces sex crimes. Really.
Does pornography breed rape? Do violent movies breed violent crime? Quite the opposite, it seems.

First, porn. What happens when more people view more of it? The rise of the Internet offers a gigantic natural experiment. Better yet, because Internet usage caught on at different times in different states, it offers 50 natural experiments.

The bottom line on these experiments is, "More Net access, less rape." A 10 percent increase in Net access yields about a 7.3 percent decrease in reported rapes. States that adopted the Internet quickly saw the biggest declines. And, according to Clemson professor Todd Kendall, the effects remain even after you control for all of the obvious confounding variables, such as alcohol consumption, police presence, poverty and unemployment rates, population density, and so forth.

I believe Santorum is trying to please conservative Christian females, but if he pushes it he will upset a much larger number of male voters.

The porn industry is very good at "covering" their... stuff :): with the first amendment.

Plus this is a horribly steep, extremely slippery slope into government censorship of free speech/expression on the internet and beyond.

He would be best to let this go, like Obama did with gun control.

EDIT: 30 seconds after I posted this, Leno said the same thing about male voters.

This really isn't funny, but I'm having trouble thinking the entire GOP isn't desperate to see President Obama re-elected. :(

Sadly, it wasn't meant to be funny. In 1972 old-time party-hack Democrats made a deal to bury McGovern in order to set-up a Kennedy-Agnew race in '76, knowing full well that Kennedy would have an easy win.

This looks like history repeating itself, just with the parties, which are really one and the same, switched.

Santorum: "the Obama DOJ seems to favor pornographers over children."

Rick Santorum: Pornography Not A Priority For Obama Administration

Santorum said that a strict reading of pornography laws would bar hard-core porn from the Internet.

The administration, he said, has "not put a priority on prosecuting these cases ... putting children at risk as a result of that."

Some how I don't think they would be very successful, look at internet piracy. HOWEVER, this is one of the things that really makes me not like that guy though. It's one thing to have religious views and "morals", but it's completely different to try and push them on to others. That's the major issue a lot of people have with the Islamic world and Sharia law.

From a purely economic perspective, this is a job-killer. Totally anti-free-market. A productive industry destroyed, and tax revenue lost.

Glad Rick is fighting relevant battles for America.

Federal legislation should never have gone beyond protecting liberty. Even if you like a particular peice of law, you are still creating/enabeling the feds to establish policy over reach. And they will later use that over reach to do something you do not like.
This is in fact the entire problem. People love to tell other people what to do. "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." Lewis.
