I recently acquired this handgun, and I have no idea what it is. It is smaller than a .38. The markings are almost completely gone. Maybe it has "AYCIAEIBAR" on the side? Any help is appreciated. IMG_20221129_184400906_HDR.jpg IMG_20221129_184417254_HDR.jpg

If it doesn’t say on the barrel (which I’m not seeing it) if the chambers are straight I’d presume a 32 of some sort. If it tapers like a bottle neck I’d say a 32-20

A closer picture of the barrel marks.
    Butt has 4259.
There is another 180 under the grips.

Spanish copy of a S&W revolver. The "Eibar" on the barrel is the place in Spain where they were manufactured. A few different manufacturers made them. Likely 32-20 if 38 won't fit.

The .38 cartridge I grabbed is too big in diameter to go in the cylinder. We tried one at a gun shop yesterday too.

It sure looks like the picture of the Model 25 in 38 that came up in google.

It’s a Spanish copy of a Smith M&P. If it’s smaller than a .38, I’d guess it’s a 32/20, but like most, it won’t be a properly chambered 32/20. I’ve owned several of these in the past. You can shoot 32/20 through it’s but the cases will often come out in an odd shape. Most of the time they have a much straighter taper and a sharper bottle neck than an American gun with the proper chambering. If you’re not going to reload it, it’s not an issue. Most of these revolvers have an odd combination of S&W and Colt lock work inside. They are generally functional revolvers but not nearly as nice or well built as a Smith. Some are though. I have one currently that is properly chambered and has been modified with a dovetailed rear sigjt and it’s a very good shooter!
