I want something weildy for home use, yet, I want to be able to throw a barrel on it and hit the woods.

Would like a semi to perhaps even take it to 3 gun.

Am I asking too much? Way off base?

    Or a Remington 870...

    Or a Mossberg 500 or 590

    Or a NEF Pardner Pump

Or a Maverick 88 (Mossberg product)

Any would work just fine, actually.

I bet there will be SEVERAL more votes for the 870, though.

i picked up this winchester model 1300 with 3 barrels and a full set of choke tubes for around $400.00 not too long ago. i bought it used, but you would be hard pressed to tell it had ever been fired.

i bought it to serve primarily as a home defense gun. i added a shot shell sling and picked up and few boxes of remington tac8 and hornady tap 00 buck shot and it was ready to go.

but with three barrels (short "turkey" barrel for home use, rifled slug barrel and a longer "winchoke barrel") it is well suited for hunting and sporting clays or trap as well.

i suspect you could find an "as new" 1300 with a single barrel in the $200.00 range.

    good luck.

I have no idea what I am buying in barrels though. It's hard to imagine paying 1100 for a semi auto shotgun for hunting and competition stuff.

I am ignorant when it comes to the accessories and different barrels to be honest.

I have no idea about a comp gun,but I have a Mossberg 835 ultimag and love it. It will handle 3 1/2" shells and I have a short 24" turkey barrel, 30" regular barrel both of which take the same choke tubes and also have a rifled slug barrel for it as well. It is the best all round hunting gun i have owned.

I agreed with a lot of the above mentioned Shotguns
MY pick would be either a Remington 870 or 1100
with that said a Winchester 1300 is a fine gun also , along with the mossbergs

What he said. I've had my 835 with a cantilevered scoped rifle barrel and an additional 24" turkey/goose/rabbit/duck/dove/squirrel/crow/skeet/trap/sporting clays barrel since 1996. It is an incredible gun.

I also have an 870 with a 30" barrel. The Mossy points better, weighs less, is balanced better, and has the safety in the right place. The 870 has its place, but its place is not near the 835 by any stretch.

I bought an 870 combo, came with a 20 inch rifled slug barrel and a 26 inch field barrel. I think I paid 300 after a mail in rebate from Remy. For fun I have tried slug out of the rifled barrel out to 100 yards and was surprised how accurate. I also keep the rifled barrel on for home defense. Its short enough and if i ever have to use it I doubt i'll care if i messed up the rifling. Use the field barrel for shooting clays, crows etc. For around 300 you can have a gun that serves 3 purposes.

    This is a PSA:

The OP asked about a semi. 870s, 1300s, 835s, and pretty much everything else mentioned other then the 1100 is a pump.

I'm not saying anything bad about pumps, but he asked about a semi.

When was this?? I haven't seen any 870 combos for for under 350 in months. I am assuming this was post-election?

Sure, but he said "would like" not "only" so that's why we didn't get wrapped around the axle over semi or pump.
