Recommend a gun smith

I am looking for a smith to take a look at my grandfather's Arisaka 38 Carbine. It appears to my untrained eye to be in good shape and if it is fit, I would like to take it out to the range and put some rounds through it.

edit: If possible I would like to take this to someone who has experience working on this type of rifle, or at least has experience working on older rifles.

Oh, and here's a picture, cause it's pretty.

Call a few near you. I have to believe that any competent gunsmith would be able to check the headspace, barrel condition, and gun action to determine if it is safe to shoot.

I've had a few look at some old long guns of mine when I acquired them to ensure they were safe. Fairly simple process for an experienced person.



Edit to add: Wikipedia indicates it has a remarkably strong action. I would think that bodes well for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_38_rifle

Im in Fort Wayne, use a guy by the name of Richard Clauss
he is located in Garrett-he shortened a barrel for me.

Quick turn around and cheap! He is an expert in wood & an all around great gunsmith! Cleanest shop I have ever seen!
