It’s 20-frickin’-23, and we STILL have people doing this crap??
Yes I know people that thinks the original wd40 is a lubricant.

WD40 is now making a lubricant and many other fine products. One I like a lot is the Specialist corrosion inhibitor.

This stuff worked great on outdoor locks and tools. I decided to try it on a rifle.
It works great on them as well.
    Just remember it isn't lubricant.

The (false) rumor is that there are 40 uses for it - it really sucks at almost all of them.
Negatory. the 40 means its the 40th formulation they tried. There were 39 other versions that were worse. Its translation is actually Water Displacement, 40th version.

Oh, and its key ingredient is fish oil.

Same here with lock mechanisms.. WD will attract dirt.. Yesh as you could see.
I fished with a guy who sprayed it on his soft lures, lots of options out there to lube a gun or a lock but no WD-40, but no hearing its fish oil, for fishing maybe.

I’ve used on pistols from time to time for the purpose it was originally designed for, water displacement. On a kayak trip about 200 miles from home. Capsized a time or two, of course, I was armed, and then a thunderstorm came up. We were all drowned rats!
Dollar General had WD-40 and my son, wife and myself hosed down our firearms really well. Wiped them down with a towel, put them in our holsters and headed home. At home, they got disassembled, cleaned and lubricated with homemade Ed’s Red.
    No problemo….

An ex-girlfriend brought me an H&R revolver she couldn't get open.

Turns out she soaked it in WD-40, wrapped it in a rag, and put it in storage for a few years.

Even after soaking it in a few different things, it took a rubber mallet to open the cylinder.

The original WD-40 product is no good as a gun lube, but WD-40 make so much different products now, its tough to known which would work now.
