It's a classic political timing move. Bring out the indictment to steal the headlines and try to suck the wind out of something damming about Biden, although the damming info about Biden would never be in the MSM headlines anyway.

More importantly, why did SENATOR biden have them? Reports are some of them are from his days in the senate, where he probably didnt have clearance in the first place to even have them.
He was chairman or ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for 12 years. That would have given him very high clearance, as would being Vice President. A number of us here have had access to classified information in order to perform our military or civilian jobs.
I am not excusing his apparent mishandling of classified material.

Sorry he wasn't the sitting president...that simple...surprised ot wouldn't let you type sitting though...maybe you mistyped something.
My post stands. He did it when he was President. Are you implying Trump took the docs in question after he was out of office? Reread the constitution and tell us just what entities have the constitutional power to tell the President to do ANYTHING?

Here is the real outcome the uniparty wants.

“Yet, the term of imprisonment isn’t the issue here. The trial and the legal pressure the Biden Department of Justice is forcing Trump to shoulder.“

“As Katie wrote on Friday, they want him to quit. Trump being a billionaire is the only reason he can soak up these legal actions. The costs will be astronomical; most families would have been bankrupt by now. The Justice Department’s witch hunts have bankrupted many former Trump aides. Trump now faces two trials…”

Interesting reading here about the word play in the indictment. I believe that several in this thread have misdescribed the point…

“The indictment accuses President Trump of withholding documents containing “classified markings,” a very specifically deployed obtuse wording intended to create the implication of something nefarious where nothing nefarious exists. It is entirely possible for a person, any person, especially a person who follows the news, to possess documents containing “classified markings.”

“There is a big difference between a classified document and a document containing classified markings. As an example, anyone who has looked at the Carter Page FISA application, made public in July 2018, has reviewed a document containing “classified markings.” When a document is declassified, they do not remove the markings.”

We sure have some pure as driven snow law enforcement going on here.

“On Saturday, The Conservative Treehouse disclosed how Merrick Garland and Jack Smith used a linguistic trick to indict President Trump on junk documents charges.”

“It’s well known that Merrick Garland is a serial liar and has committed perjury in front of the US Congress without consequence.”

“Jack Smith, the far left partisan who Garland appointed as Special Counsel, has a disturbingly lawless career. Smith had one case overturned by the Supreme Courtfor lying and withholding evidence. Smith was an instrumental player in the IRS conservative targeting scandal before the 2012 election.”

“And like in many federal jobs, the more Jack Smith lied and cheated the further he advanced.”

Yeah, there is no doubt that they have always wanted to try and beat down Trump to get him to capitulate and go away. He's had more resolve than they have though. I've also seen that they want to occupy the headlines with all of this so as to take the focus off of Biden's failures.

I also think that Jerry Rivers is out of his mind if he thinks Trump would ever agree to a bargain like that.

This just goes to show that Trump truly is for AF. He didn't have to subject himself to all of this. He's a billionaire and could just be out enjoying a carefree life in his later years.

The power given to the President, whether by the Constitution or legislation, applies to the time in office. It is not lifetime.
    We elect presidents, not monarchs.

The balance of powers sent up in the Constitution makes it difficult to make a definitive statement. The dominance of the respective branches has varied over the years. Only Congress can pass legislation, even over a Presidential veto. Congress determines the budget and how the money is spent. Only Congress declares war. Congress can remove the Present from officer. The President has no official power over the make-up of Congress. All this is mostly indirect influence on a president.

    Art ii, sec 3
". . . he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed,. . .
How that can be enforced is another question.

Has even the looney left alleged he took the documents after his presidency ended?

A President can have agreements with congress but no President and and or congress can pass a law, regulation, or agreement that binds subsequent presidents or congress. The President is the unilateral decision maker for documents in their possession and possess the ability to keep those documents after their presidency.

    Why is this so hard?

He was still POTUS at the time when he had his aides load the boxes up on the way out. So that is correct in that aspect. He presidency had'nt quite ended.

I think the bottom line here is are they going to far with all of these indictments?

First you have the SD hush money indictment and now this. Then there are two more potential indictments waiting in the wings. (J6 and Georgia.)

All this on top of the Russia collusion hoax and the two impeachments. It’s not hard to see that it’s mostly all polically motivated.

If they keep pushing it like this they run the risk of igniting a powder keg and further tearing the country apart.

iDK. Maybe that’s what they want.
    Tis the goal.

Question left to answer is about motivations.
