Saw this elsewhere. There has to be so much more to this.

I'm sure it involves the case built against gramps, dropping any pending litigation against ANYBODY for this and shutting the hell up to fester away the rest of his life. In exchange for allowing said festering to occur at home instead of a PR prison.

That's an event that hangs in front of your consciousness every waking moment for the rest of your life.

There is no coming back from that.

Grandfather pleads "guilty" to negligent homicide.

That makes the lawsuit harder...but not impossible....and possibly makes it real easy to collect from the grandfather's insurer if they sued him as well.

    [ETA]

Does not look like they have sued the grandfather (yet).

That makes sense, kinda, in a way. The parents want to blame Royal Caribbean and don't want RC to be able to shove responsibility off on the grandfather. However, I would assume that this is under comparative fault and RC has nonpartied the grandfather so they can do that anyway.

    [ETA #2]

Well what do you know? there is no nonparty defense in maritime law. However, RC can argue that the grandfather's negligence was an intervening, superceding cause. Apparently maritime law is like stepping back in time.

    Didn't you watch Arrested Development?

Oh, and speaking of time, remember that the trial start time is always listed in "bells". ;)

I had to stick with that video to see if fringed flags were explained. I has much sad that he did not get to that in the clip.

I'm not sure if the guy guy was playing nice, or really didn't want to interrupt to say, "Berth" is not the same as "Birth".

Ship of Gold in the deep blue sea has some decent admiralty law regarding treasure salvage.

the insurer basically abandoned the craft since they made no attempt to salvage. The hunter has to bring an artifact from the boat to court, either have it arrested or sue it, can't recall, and then you are given ownership.
