Is KG GunKote any tougher than Cerakote?
Do you do checkering, specifically 1911 front straps? Steel and aluminum?
How much for milling front slide serrations?
How much for the bobtail work on a stainless gun?
Allen has refinished 3 of my pistols and worked on several others. All are top notch. He is very dedicated, honest and goes out of his way to ensure that the job is done right.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
I will work on a list of services and pricing this weekend. In the meantime feel free to PM me with any questions. You will find I am very competitive pricing wise.
I do want to put this out there. I am not a professional machinist or a life long Gunsmith and I know my limitations. But I am more than a hobbyist and I am wide open to doing new things if you have a gun you want to experiment on. We can build something cool and save some bucks allowing me to "practice" on your gun. I will let you know up front if I can't do something.
Answer to a couple specific questions already asked.
GunKote vs Cerakote:
I have been using KG GunKote for a few years now and it is a great product. It is less costly, easier to apply and is very durable.
I would say it is sufficient for the majority of paint work that needs doing.
In fact because of ease of use I personally prefer to use it over Cerakote just because of ease and that it is a good durable product and it will save you money.
Having said that, if you are someone that "must just have the best" I have not used any product that can compare to Cerakote for durability it is just plain hard to wear through. If you want your EDC to look good for a long time this is the product. It will cost a little more
Appearance wise I can not see a difference between the two.
Also I have all the color chips from both companies.
Prices on painting a slide and frame start at $75.00 for GunKote
and $95.00 for CeraKote.
Yes I do barrel threading. $75.00
P.S. this is through me. Please don't show up at Diamond Collision for gun work without contacting me first.
I just picked up a receiver for a Remington .22 rifle that Allen painted for me....AAA+++ on EACH and EVERY step.
This will be a start for me on more repairs to be done by him...Bill..
Bobtail is $75.00 labor plus parts, ie: Grips and bobtail MSH. it is sometime possible to reuse the old grips but typically new VZ's or similar look much better
Usually runs around $190.00 total which should cover a decent set of grips.
Complete refinish depends on if you want the slide and all the controls done as well.
To refinish complete gun, disassemble strip to bare metal, refinish, lube and reassemble would be $125 extra if you do it at the same time as bobtail
Short answer is $215.00 + or - depending on parts cost
