The look on Mr. Grey’s face was one of fear and concern. His only reply was that he would be there for Trisha and the kids.

I explained that I would not be leaving until I knew Thomas was home and able to take care of himself. I also explained that I was promised that a detail would be tasked with the security of my home and the area with random patrols and if things get bad a constant presence at the house.

Defcon 5: All is good in the hood

Defcon 4: Power failure. find the source of the problem and either fix it or call to have it fixed. Low concern depending on outside situation

Defcon 3: Power and Phone/Internet Failure. Turn on radio and find out whats going on. Low/Medium concern depending on outside situation

Defcon 2: Power, Phone/Internet, Radio failure or broadcasting emergency message.
Medium/High concern depending on outside situation. House possibly goes into siege mode.

Defcon 1: Power, Phone/Internet, Radio failure or broadcasting emergency message. Some sort of natural, man made, alien, or zombie problem is near my home or neighborhood. House goes into siege mode.

Yup, if defcon 1 or 2 then the action starts, if not, i'd be upset that i wouldnt see the end of the family guy episode i was watching on netflix!

Mary came into the waiting room and said it was time to go home. I stood up and gave Trisha a big hug and as I let go of her Shelly was wrapped around my leg. Mary asked when Thomas was going to be able to come home and Trisha explained the time table the doctors had spoke about..

Shelly said hurry home and they left with Mr. Grey and the Guardsman.

As Trisha and I walked back into the room the door opened right behind us and the orderly wheeled Thomas back in. He seemed to be in good spirits and was wide awake. “That thing sounds like a space ship taking off” he exclaimed referring to the CT machines sound.

“When do I get to go home?” he asked.. Trisha explained to Thomas what the doctor and nurses had said to which Thomas said well then you better get me some more food so I can poop and get out of this place..

After eating a turkey sandwich, a bag of chips, two bananas and three jello cups Thomas sat back in his bed out his hands behind his head looked down at his bulging belly and said do your work gut, we got to go..

A cute young nurse came in to check Thomas’ vitals and Thomas sat up really fast trying to seem taller in the bed. Doing so caused him some slight pain which happened to draw the attention of the nurse. As she lifted the bed sheet and examined the area of Thomas’ abdomen where the scope marks were she was shocked when Thomas cringed and yelled out “OUCH.” Immediately Trisha jumped up to see what was wrong. Thomas started giggling as the nurse now frightened had gained her composure. He was only kidding and explained, “your hands are cold” lol everyone kind of relaxed, except for the young nurse who was just trying to see if there was any swelling or seepage from the three scope marks left from the surgery. Thomas apologized and proceeded to flurt with the nurse who did not seem amused by his antics. In sort of a payback gesture she pushed slightly hard on the area near one of the small incisions to find an actual “ouch” come out.

As the nurse pulled the blanket back up Thomas asked if he could get something tp drink. The Nurse said maybe in a little while, smirked and walked out of the room.

Finally Trisha said when Thomas said he felt like he needed to go to the bathroom. Once she helped him up and scooting the IV pole into the bathroom he would be able to relive himself and they might let him go home.

“Mom..??” she heard from the bathroom. “There is a bucket covering the hole..” Thomas called out. She answered him explaining that they wanted to measure his out take. He laughed and commented about the past times when he would be so proud of things he would call his sisters or her into the bathroom to check out his defecation or worse would just leave it for the next unsuspecting user of the facilities to witness and ask about..

Trey walked in as Thomas was sitting back down on the bed. Trisha pushed the nurce call button so that they could come check the bucket. Thomas looked at Trey and said “I did it, lets get out of here..” Trey looked at Trisha and she explained that he went to the bathroom. They all laughed about the achievement.

A few minutes later a different nurse than earlier came in and asked what was the issue in a more rude and less caring tone. Trisha informed her that Thomas had had a bowel movement and that she thought that someone was to check it.

Disgusted with the thought the nurse simply looked in and confirmed that something had been deposited turning around and explaining that someone would be in in a little while to clean that up. Obviously it was beneath her.

Having to wait to leave the hospital was driving Thomas crazy. He wanted to go. He obviously felt better, he had gotten dressed in record time after the cute nurse took his IV out.

Trisha sat there with everything gathered up and ready to go, Trey had went down to get the truck staged to get them home

After about 20 minutes the cute nurse came in to go over the home care instructions and collect signatures for the insurance and release forms.

Trisha listened intently as the nurse told Thomas what he was to do when he got home, how long to not do what and that he had to see his regular doctor in a week, if things allowed. She handed all of the paperwork to Tasha who neatly put it away in her bag.

“As soon as the orderly brings a wheel chair you will be able to go” she stated as she patted Thomas on the shoulder and turned to leave. Thomas tried once again to woo her by asking her if she was on facebook.. The nurse shook her head no, giggled and walked to the door.

As the cute nurse left she asked the guardsman at the door if he was sticking around, obviously she liked men in uniform. His reply was simple, he was not sure where his Sergeant would order him to go.

Thomas felt rejected for a second until the orderly brought in the wheel chair. “I’m out of here” Thomas exclaimed and sat down and pointed to the door and said “Home James.”

Having to wait to leave the hospital was driving Thomas crazy. He wanted to go. He obviously was feeling better.

As we left the room the guardsman followed. The one stationed at the elevator pushed the down button for us. Then accompanied us down to the lobby. Trisha was starting to get the picture. These guards were posted to protect her and Thomas. It was starting to add up. Whatever Trey had agreed to must have included all of this in the deal.

As the orderly followed the guardsman from outside of the room Thomas was waving to all of the different nurses and staff that he noticed stating he was out of here, it had been great but he had somewhere to be..

As they crossed the lobby Trey walked back inside now wearing his gear and carrying his rifle. “We got to go now” with hurry in his voice.. The first gurardsman walked out and stood to the right, the second to the left as Thomas hobbled into the truck.

Shutting the back door and opening the front door Trey motioned for Trisha to get in and after walking around to the drivers side and getting in nodded at the guardsman who each went their way and got in a Hummer, one in front and one in back of the truck.

As they pulled out from under the overhang and out onto the road Trisha looked at Trey and simply asked what was going on.

“We got a military escort Momma” Thomas exclaimed from the back seat before Trey could answer.

Trey looked at Trisha and just nodded. Her wheels of thinking were spinning at Indy car speeds trying to figure it all out.

Pulling in the driveway had to wait for the hummer blocking it to be moved. The neighborhood was mostly dark. As they pulled in the front hummer kept going, turning around at Mr Koontz and ended up sitting across from Mr. Grey’s house.

Trey had to leave a little extra room as he pulled in due to the car size generator and fuel tank trailer parked in front of the North Garage door. As Trisha looked at it and opened her door she turned to trey and asked, what is this? Trey simply said “power and fuel” over the slight hum and rumble of the generators running engine.

“Part of the deal?” she asked. Trey just nodded and said lets get Thomas inside.
