Large section of destroyed space shuttle Challenger found on ocean floor

Divers for a TV documentary first spotted the piece in March while looking for wreckage of a World War II plane.

One of those events you remember where you were when you heard the news.
GFGT that is exactly what I was thinking when I read the thread title.

I was about a week from going to Basic Training, a few days left at Smith Cabinet (later known as Child Craft) in Salem. I was driving home for lunch, heard it on WQMF. Would've been between 1145 and Noon.

I was getting ready to head out to class in my 3rd year of college. I was late to my first class and when I got there, the prof. had a tv set up with the coverage on.

I was driving to call on a customer. When I got to his store and walked in, he had it on a TV there. I saw a replay since it happened while I was on the road.

I was in elementary school. Myself and another kid were sent down to the audio/video room to bring back a TV on a cart so our class could watch the coverage.

I was in a combine cab custom harvesting soybeans when news flash came over the radio. Will never forget the feelings of disbelief, shock, and utter sadness.

A few years ago, I was visiting NASA in Florida with my daughter, and we were looking at the shuttle Atlantis that is on display there. A woman standing in front of us leaned over to her husband and asked, "is that the one that blew up"?

It is cool to see. That entire complex is neat to see.

The shuttles are a lot smaller then I remember when I was a kid. I remember a tour when we drove next to one on a crawler all hooked up and ready to go and it looked huge. That had to be very cozy for 6, 7 or 8 people. Can not remember exactly how many would go up.
