We printed that off at work for all the farmers in my area and some of them are getting 3 million or more a year in subsidys and they live in million dollar houses and drive 63k trucks. Doesn't make sense

All farm welfare should be stopped. The richest farmers that I know in my area are getting over 3 million for their company and as individuals. They do have the best homes and farms. There would be many more small farms if it wasn't for farm welfare. It is welfare and the government is just buying loyalty.

When I was in high school we had 8 sheep. We'd get them sheared, then take the receipt to the Farm Service and get a few dollars of "mohair subsidy". WTF? We'd get more subsidy than the price given for the wool from the buyer, which barely paid for the fee to sheer them.

I started farming 140 acres in 1984, my Uncle told me to "sign-up" for the farm program. So I'm 20 years old and getting a subsidy check to participate. What a deal!

Still getting checks but only about 10% of what the peak was.

The paperwork to sign up for the crop program is getting more and more onerous and likely driving more landlords to get away from share rents, going to cash rents instead.

Unintended consequences of .gov meddling: Push the smaller farmer aside and pave the way for BTO. (Big time Operator) The BTO is the guy you read about in the Farm Magazines (the ones that come for free each week even though you never subscribe or pay for them)

These magazines have good articles on how to expand your operation (by taking away your neighbor's land) and how to mitigate the risk of paying too high of rent (By using the Federal Crop insurance, giving you a 75% reduction of crop insurance rates) Get more acres farmed in a day by buying bigger and bigger equipment from the paid advertisers in said magazines.

Funny the Farm Porn Magazines don't really follow up on how many people are harmed when these BTO's fail and close up shop. Leaving $$$ in unpaid bills at the local businesses.

But lets examine the way subsidies are paid to farmers: The land has a yield history. This is how the subsidy dollars are figured. Traditionally you split this with the landlord in a share rent. Or the farmer gets 100% in a cash rent agreement. Though, I've heard of high cash rents, and all the value of the subsidy going to the landlord.

Let's say the average INGO reader would like to buy 80 acres so he could build a house and walk out his back door and shoot. He finds a parcel with 20 acres of wooded ground to build his house on and 60 acres of farmland. He pays $10,000 an acre ( $800,000) He needs to rent out the 60 so he can pay off the loan. Is he or his farmer going to participate in the subsidy? Most likely. Is his rental income higher because of the subsidy? Most likely.

Are farm subsidies here to stay (even though the farm sector has done well in the last 5 years and doesn't need them) Most likely!

Remember the land isn't all owned by the farmer, and the subsidy is tied to the land. Who owns the land?

    I forgot to add:

Around 1986 the corn price crashed to $1.60/ bushel due to the new farm program removing the base price on grains. Uncle Sam made up the difference in price up to $2.10 (IIRC) so in essence the end user could buy the crop for whatever price they wanted to. (No incentive to bid higher) and Uncle made up the difference in price to keep the farmer afloat.

So in this case: who benefited the most? ADM, Cargill, etc?

Anybody know how this works ? I did a search for my zip code in Indy ( 46241 ) .

The first guy that shows up has received $ 188, 277.88 for corn and soy bean crops in Newton and White counties .

All together it looks like 74 folks in that zip code (Indianapolis) have received $ 471,318 .

So you don't actually have to live on / near your "farm" / crop to be a " farmer " and get subsidies ? Seems like a racket to me .

I notice also that one of our most well respected hard working farmers in this area...a WWII guy I might add, is not listed at all. He owns a ton of land, lives in a modest simple well kept home, and drives a 10+ year old GMC PU. The other one I listed above has brand new 60K PU's every year and lives in a mansion. Now that I think about this all I am pissed!!! Our big wigs end up being on the dole. Sickening IMO.

I need to get a farm!

Whats there to be pissed about? Why would anyone blame THE PERSON? Can't blame the mother of 12 for taking a free check... Can't blame the young farmer for choosing to live in a mansion from government subsidy.

The problem does not lie in the inhibitions of the individual... this is a systematic problem! Be mad at the system. The government creates their monopoly money out of the sweat and hardwork of the American people... these farmers included. Why would a farmer or a black college student or anyone else refuse to play Monopoly?

The system is such a farce that I don't blame ANYONE for exploiting it. Hopefully EVERYONE exploits it and increases the speed at which it collapses!! Hitting the "RESET" button is the only way that we can get this government monster under control.

Blaming the system is what liberals do. Taking advantage of the system is not the right thing to do; individual responsibility is the answer. Why would you think a "reset" would be better? The only reason the United States is the best place to live on this planet is because of our Constitution. I believe the NWO folks want a reset if they can't slowly manipulate our country into their New World Order. A reset would put a lot of wicked people in charge of the new government. Everything they do is setting us up for a reset, their way. It would not be better.

First... I don't buy into the Liberal/Conservative finger pointing. Its all a bunch of Crips vs Bloods bull**** to me. Liberals/Conservatives/Libertarians... we are American's in my eyes. Imperfect and easily led astray. You can blame OUR problems on the "Liberals" if you want.... Its not going to get you or this country anywhere.

I would say that you are overly optimistic if you think that magically our circumstances will begin to digress back to a sustainable pace. We are on a freight train headed for the cliff and if you haven't noticed... passengers aren't calling for the conductor to pull the brakes. They are either asleep or cheering on the train! Your so called "Conservatives" included.

Furthermore... while the Constitution may have afforded the American people some amazing liberties post Revolution... its slowly becoming obsolete. Look around! I don't see much of the Constitution or the principles our Founding Fathers envision for us left.

The Constitution isn't the reason America has become the worlds "greatest place to live", at least not all by itself. The free market helped... the industrial revolution helped... and a lot of back door dealing, military interventionism and cunning cutthroat deal making helped. All funded by an out of control spending habit (thanks to the Federal Reserve deciding to print money out of thin air).

Mike Tyson lived in the greatest house in the world... but he took out a lot of credit and overspent to create such a lavish dwelling. Then he went bankrupt and put a tattoo on his face.

I love my country, but not in the way that Roman's loved the "Empire". I love the history... I love the principles the Founding Fathers promoted... I love the people, but right now their "spirit" is asleep. I think a reset will awaken that spirit and I don't think an NWO is going to be able to stop it.

The soul of this country is dying... I hope I'm alive to see it reinvigorated.

I don't blame the farmers for taking what they can get. Gotta play the game if you want to compete in a rigged market.

I do blame them if they vote for keeping it around.

Given the chance, I'd vote against keeping the Social Security system in place. But I'll cash the check if I ever get one.

Your comment about taking advantage of the system is what got my attention. I have seen your posts and I was surprised to see that comment.

The NWO uses the Left and the Right against each other to their advantage. They are destroying our country a little at a time and most folks blame the other side. A reset is coming, but it won't be pretty. There's not enough guns to stop a group of tyrants that believe only 500 million people should live on this earth.

I would not call the Constitution obsolete. We probably would have already had a reset if it weren't for the 1A and 2A. John Adams said "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other". It's just that there are not enough moral people to keep this country honest. It's not that there aren't enough laws, people just don't obey them.

Interesting link. I don't see any $5M players around me but the Parks' and the Easterday's are in the $3M ballpark--bunch of pikers!
