Currently live in Brownsburg. If you want anything to do with auto racing, this is it! John Force has his headquarters here, and there are a LOT of racing teams in and around town. Also voted the #1 place to live in Indiana in 2009.

Was raised in Avon, back before that was even a town (just a flashing light at an intersection). The town was named by the railroad, and that location has also been known as Hampton, White Lick (for the creek), Smootsdale, and New Philadelphia. Pretty sure it only exists because of the Big Four rail yard. The Avon Marching Black and Gold holds more championships than any other marching band in Indiana.

Carmel was called Bethlehem until 1874. Carmel also had one of the first automatic traffic signals in the country at the intersection of Main Street and Rangeline Road.

Jacob Munster, a young man from the Netherlands in the 1860s opened an area General Store complete with a U.S. postal station. The local farmers and settlers came to rely on the postal station, which soon became a United States Post Office. The post office was named Munster, as it was located in Jacob Munster's general store. In 1907 Munster was incorporated as a town.

During the Cold War, Munster served as the site of the Nike-Zeus Missile defense base C-46. The site was closed in 1971.

Buildings and grounds are still intact, and definitely still look like a missile base.

In the movie "Hoosiers", in one of the basketball scenes you can see the name of the opponents on the scoreboard. Oolitic, however you pronounce it, is a real town of about 1200 people.

I thought that a section of the ferris wheel from the Chicago World's Fair was being used as a bridge somewhere in north west Indiana, but the only info I can find on it's fate is that it was transported to St. Louis and later demolished by dynamite, so maybe that's not true.

There is a piece of a bridge I'd always heard came from that ferris wheel. It is/was between sr.49 and sr.421 on the Kankakee. There is a county road right next to it with a little dnr boat launch within rock throwing distance.

Been to the Bull Dog Saloon a few times. Hung out with the owner's son. There was a pretty good place for biscuits and gravy (giant sized portions) down the street, not that there was much of Mentucky proper that wasn't right down the block.
