I'm Stoked. Got to use my new CNC got to do something new. It's a good day :)

Thanks to Shooter521 for allowing me to try fluting on his rifle.

This stressed me out more than anything I have recently tried just due to not having any margin for error.

I am glad its done and am happy with the results.
I will refinish the barrel and reassemble it hopefully later today.

Mark's goal with the rifle was to lighten the barrel I did more than just flute it I cut it down 2" to 20", did a 11 degree target crown, Threaded and turned down the end of the barrel for a suppressor mount.

All this with the fluting shaved a nice 1 pound 3 ozs of the weight.

I still have to paint it but I just finished the fluting which took 5 hours of actual cutting time and couldn't wait to post it.

Simple cnc project? Yes, but my first project with the new CNC. Still needs some tuning but so much easier to use than what I had.

I'll post some other pics when it is completely done.

    Before

    Shaving 2 inches

Turned down , crowned and threaded

    Fluting in action

Next on to reinstalling in the receiver and refinish and done

Large not to good video I need to edit down :)

Is that a 4th axis or are you using a solid mounted chuck to hold the barrel? Just curious how you indexed each flute.

It's a rotary table that also has interchangeable indexing plates.
I put a 6 sided indexing plate in and that seemed to work just right

Now I will need to have the flutes done too! As soon as McGowen ships the barrel, it's going to need some of the work Shooter had done. Deer beware.... I plan on hunting with a new thunder stick this year!:rockwoot:

Can't wait to get the rifle back out shooting!

    BUT...

I'm also thinking about picking up a new stock and installing detachable mag hardware... can you do inletting, too? :)

I can do that. This rifle would really benefit from a better stock. The balance on this is so much better than before
