Those splitters were on the domestic market several years ago. They mounted on the 3ph of a tractor and connected to the PTO. Guy in KY got caught up in one. It tore both his arms off before they could stop it. He survived and they re-attatched his arms. He is probably filthy rich today. Company is no longer in biz. That auger was DANGEROUS.

for a few hundred bucks you can get a hydraulic splitter thats much safer. that just dont look good.

Funny I always did it by hand, Until we got one for the tractor. Then still did it by hand because it always broke down.
No way I would stick my hands by either of the first 2

Wedging it against the ground in the direction of the twist.

This thing is awesome. I just put a call into a dealer out of Crawfordsville to see how much one of these cost. I've got a John Deere compact tractor with a loader that would be great for one of these if they can make it fit my loader. It has the John Deere style quick detach bucket. I've been wanting to get a post hole digger anyway.
