a good hit with a decent bullet into a fairly important body part will result in a generally quick stop.

My opinion: no one can predict with certainty what the actual effects bullets will have on a given individual in a specific situation, regardless of shot placement or caliber. Be prepared to continue shooting until the desired effects are achieved and don't stop until then.

Correct.

Sometimes that takes no shots at all and someday, somewhere it will take more shots than someone has available. Hopefully it will be zero or another low number, but you have to be prepared to continue until the problem is solved.
