I know there was a law passed a few years back that says you can have your firearms locked in your personal vehicle while at work. My question is, can a County government prohibit this law? Say I work for X county and park in a county owned employee parkinglot. Can X County tell me I cannot do this? I always thought county law cannot superseded a state law and a state law cannot superseded a federal law. Do I have this wrong? Thanks for the help!

Although your employer can make rules about carrying a gun "on duty", they cannot restrict you from keeping it in your vehicle.

If you do, keep it quiet. They can't fire you for having a gun in the car, but since Indiana is an "at will" state they can fire you for something else if your supervisor in anti-gun.

OP, type the code in post #3 in your browser and read it. The answer is "it depends." In general you should be able to keep your gun locked in a vehicle parked in a county-owned parking lot...UNLESS the nature of parking lot is a county owned facility whose business in on the list of facilities excluded from this law...for example a county operated emergency shelter care facility, etc. The nature of business the lot serves is relevant.
