Hello - been lurking for a little while, checking things out and decided to post. did a little deer hunting in high school, bought a Remington 870 once i was old enough, didn't go much further than that until recently. Have picked up a few more long guns for hunting and have been thinking about a handgun, however want to be careful due to young kids (7, 9) in the house. Will probably start slow, maybe a .22 to start with and then move up from there. Suggestions are welcome.

A .22 is a good first choice and there are many to choose from. All guns should be treated the same from a safety perspective. If you decide later on to carry, I would recommend training and a larger caliber. :)

Basic Handgun course would be of great benefit to help with choices, safety, laws, etc.
