Cool story. And now most of those homes do not have adequate foundation support because they were dug out, they have no basement foundation, only a crawl foundation that is unsupported on one side.

Just a caution if someone is buying and sees this.

I built a complex of condos in NC. They were built with crawl spaces, atop a Ridgeline along a lake front.

When the general looked at them from thr shore line he decided they should have walk out basements.

I got the task of shoring them up while a catapillar articulating loader dug them out concrete footings were poured and masons laid a new foundation.

6, 2 story condos, a week or so and I must say it is probably the scariest job I have done.
