Is there any collectors value in old fire extinguishers? I know the really old brass ones are valuable. I've got these two and I'm having trouble just pitching them. They would be cool in a fireman's man cave. Anyway, any input would be appreciated.
Those are the old cartridge type extinguishers. I have literally thrown hundreds of those away over the last 20 years, they are old, but not worth anything, sorry.
There should be a small cartridge under the cover which screws onto the extinguisher itself. If the cap is not punctured it still may work. Those are ABC extinguishers, so they are able to put out any type of fire.
Those are actually really good extinguishers. As stated, they are cartridge operated, dry chemical. The co2 cartridge (basically like a pellet gun, only bigger) pressurizes the unit when needed, as opposed to a typical unit, that is pressurized constantly. They don't leak, and have way more pressure than a standard style. Fluff the powder with a rubber mallet and keep them.
I have shot several including 20#Co2 extinguishers it acted like a little rocket. No boom just danced around and took off across a bean field. Disclaimer: it was past it’s serviced date and we were 200 yards away.
