What is a fair trade value on 22 ammo? I see prices all over the place. I have some Winchester and Remington I will be looking to trade.

I have seen people asking $150 for 500 round bricks and I find that insane...

$150 for 500 rnds of .22 rimfire IS, IMHO, insane. But, like many others on the forums have said, as long as people are willing to pay the price then the price will just keep going up.

A brick will most likely consist of 10 boxes of 50.
Pre Pandemic, $2-2.50 per Box of 50 pretty much was the going price for average run of the mill .22.
Cheaper prices could be found on sale at home n farm stores, at Wally World or even online.
Your better grade .22 was in the 3.00+ per 50 category.
Last summer I witnessed the prices move up slowly with the panic gun buying.
What was once on average .03-.05 around were now .10 around.
Bricks went from $20.00-$25.00 to $50.00, again just your average Federal/Winchester/Blazer etc.
Come August, when most folks were guessing and hoping ammo would have made a come back, they soon saw shelves empty at their LGS’s, Wally World, Home n Farm.
Here we are today, still with empty shelves and folks are now selling their ammo for profit.
I would guess, as said before, people are going to get what ever a person is willing to pay.

I just bought 3 100-round boxes of CCI minimag last week from Wal-Mart at ~$0.08 cost per round. My local gun store has had Armscor for $0.10 cost per round. And I just got some Aguila for $0.13 cost per round after shipping and taxes.

And then there’s some .22lr going for $0.20 cost per round in the Classified. :poop:

I think $0.13 cost per round is going to be my ceiling.

A quick look shows the cheapest .22 at $.18/rd online. Yeah, that's nuts. In regular times if I'm trading and it involves ammo, I usually figure about 50% of what it is going for online. Yeah, not really great but you can't really know if it has been stored properly or has other issues. I think with the way things are right now, I'd go a little more, like maybe 65% for run of the mill ammo and up to 75% for better grades.

Forget about buying online, go out and beet feet. I paid $90 a brick at midway in January, but only for some SK target grade ammo, and it shots real fine. I passed on Midways $15.99 for a 100 rounds of CCI this week, mostly because I found the exact same ammo at Walmart for $7.95 the very same day. Who would have thought WM and Rural King, would be doing right by us while a mainstay like MW is raising prices. CCI sells ammo online for less than Midway, even though it is usually sold out.

I recently found a 2K round box of Aguila Super Extra at Midway for 11 cents/round plus shipping. I was just lucky and stumbled into it.

If you can find it for 15 cents or less, I think you are doing ok for the current situation.

I recently sold a few thousand rounds of various brands of .22LR. Charged .10 a round for it all. Another add in the classy's had various .22LR at .12 and wasn't readily selling at the time.

I was happy for the cash/profit and buyers seemed greatfull to get it for the price. Actually they ran over the top of each other to get it.

A friend told me yesterday that he bought 1500 rds of Remington Golden Bullets on Ammoseek for 25 cents/rd. This seems like too much for me but he was happy to have ammo and be able to shoot. One good thing about 22LR is that even if it sells at 4X the pre-pandemic price, your investment still isn't that large unlike 9mm and other centerfire cartridges.

I have the same question as the OP about 17HMR?

Is there any demand for 17 HMR?
From what I've seen, 17HMR is just as scarce as any other ammo but the demand doesn't seem to be near as great as .22 lr. When I find it in stock it's .60cpr. Over twice what I paid for it a couple years ago. Maybe I could trade my .17HMR for .44mag round for round. LOL

I would say it depends on how the other person is valuing their trades. If they are doing post covid trade prices you do the same and id say thats about .20 cpr for .22lr. If they are trading precovid id say .05-.08CPR depending on the type of .22 ammo you have.
