I did a little searching, but didn't really come across the info I was looking for. In Indiana, someone cannot conceal a baton can they?

IANAL: There is currently no law in the Indiana Code prohibiting possession of batons, collapsible or otherwise.

If you're considering carrying a baton or any other weapon (like a gun), you should check the Indiana Code yourself because you shouldn't trust advice you get on internet forums when your life and freedom are at stake. You can find it at IN.gov: Home.

Yet another reference to Texas law!

rhino, how are you fixed for .45acp?:D

Nap, yes, you can. Conceal it, open carry it, under your hat, on a boat on a moat, or with green eggs and ham.

People may look at you like a Strange Ranger or a Holster Sniffer, but no law against carrying a baton, or being looked at like that.:D

I carried two collapsibles before I was old enough for my handgun permit.

Trained in stick fighting among other things, and they came out quickly and handled well.

NOT illegal. I would suggest some training for use and deployment. It is a "less lethal" tool but used improperly can easily be a "lethal" tool.

I carried one as well before I could carry a firearm. I found some training classes online both through Google-Fu as well as more nefarious means. It helped. The best move is the retention move in my opinion. Make sure no one can take it away from you even if you let them get two hands on it. At that point I was comfortable carrying it.

I preferred to carry it diagonally right behind my belt buckle. It looked funny but was as fast as appendix carry and while sitting it would shift to be almost horizontal with my belt making it a non-issue. It always sat snug and never even started to fall out. It was an ASP if I remember correctly.

I emailed the ISP several years ago about this. The Femal ISP LT. responded saying that yes you could carry them but they were considered a lethal weapon like a firearm.

My gas meter reader guy has one.

He extended it (and held it like the ninja that he his) when my neighbor's dog trotted up to him for a pat on the head - doggie almost got more than a pat.

but they were considered a lethal weapon like a firearm

    "Lethal weapon"? And so what?

I've heard this term before. Where is this "lethal weapon" meme coming from?*

Which state has this statute? I'm betting Kentucky?

*Don't know, just trying to find out. I'm curious how gun memes come into being.

Here's a question: what can't we carry in Indiana?

    I'll start the list:

    1. Chinese throwing star
    2. Switchblade/automatic knife
    3. Any handgun w/o a LTCH
    4. Short BBL shotgun

#3 includes any shotgun without a rifle style buttstock. If it has a pistol-grip only then it is considered a handgun.

OK Kirk, where are those pictures of Mila? :naughty:

IANAL but I believe the difference is between "battery" and "assult with a deadly weapon"

You are correct, as a matter of law, there is a difference between the two.

    However, so what?

Why are people hyperventilating over "lethal weapons"? Where is this meme coming from and why do people think it matters?:dunno:

It's a hobby of mine, like tracking the source of the Nile . . . or the "lifetime permits will soon be banned" meme.
