Clark County, IL Park District board successfully placed under citizens arrest for failure to hold public hearings.

In a highly unusual move, the leader of a Downstate watchdog group placed an entire park district board under a citizen's arrest for failing to allow public comment and violating a state disclosure law.

The park board members receive no compensation. It seems the issue started because previous board members received free boat passes. Maybe this guy will put aside his tough talk, step up, and raise his hand.

Even volunteers need to abide by the law. They are not privileged because they volunteer for a position that has administrative authority.
Just goes to show that even well intentioned volunteers can have a little Napoléon just waiting to sneak out.

Good to see citizens take action. I hope this spreads... I can think of a few other governmental bodies that need to be arrested...

Yeah, let's not wait until we have to recreate Athens, TN to keep our local governments in check.

(After yesterday, I'd like to start with the property tax portions of local government in Marion Co.)

When you don't compensate people appropriately for their work, sometimes you get results of equal quality. I've served on several boards in the past on a volunteer basis. It's never usually worth the hassle. People tend to treat you as though your somehow subservient to them simply because you possess an ounce of executive authority and believe they should be able to treat you how they see fit.

What would be funny is if the board decided to dissolve the park and board and sell off the assets.

just curious, do you perform any volunteer work to better your community?

Asst. Scoutmaster. for around 20 years.
American Legion for around 20 years.
Officer at my Post, American Legion, for around 10 years.
Participated in the NWI INGO youth shoots.
    Took scouts to veteran's homes.
Visit veterans stuck in hospitals and homes.

    I do a bit.
And when I do, I have to follow the law.
    Gaming Laws.
    Indiana Alcohol, Tobacco laws.
    Scouting rules.
    Legion rules.

Volunteering doesn't absolve you. Or make it ok to lock citizens out of the political process.

And even if I did NO volunteering, I expect that govt. officials, whether volunteer or paid, has to follow the rules.
