When I first moved to Indiana, I learned more about time zones and daylight saving time than I ever knew before for those reasons and than I think most folks who did change time knew at the time, as I was constantly explaining Indiana time to people.

I still have a pet peeve about people indicating EST for a time with no regard if daylight saving time is in effect or not.
If I had a dollar for every time a meeting was messed up, I would go to Ruth’s Chris for dinner tonight. Heard this hundreds of times, “I thought Indiana was the same time as [Ohio! Illinois] because last time I was here it was”.

If only Outlook had a way to understand time zones...

Wow, they were dumb. Every clock those people would see would have the correct time, with the exception of their own watch. If they were travelling they should have adjusted that to the local time when they arrived.

I went to school at IU and lived in NWI and managed to keep the time straight. I guess I was pretty exceptional.

When you grow up you will also have experiences. :lmfao:

For me, its figuring out how to do it! I think I remember but won;'t know until i go out and try it. :)
I'm lucky, I suppose. In my car I touch the clock display and I get uppy/downy arrows for hours, minutes and seconds.
Touch the clock again and done.

Oddly, I can set seconds, but it does not display seconds. Who knows.

We have a foreign car (Mazda) and a Murican car (Jeep). The Mazda has an Hour button and a Min button. You push them til the time is correct. The Jeep you have to turn the ignition on and off three times, then press EVERY button on the dash simultaneously while the left turn signal is blinking. That activates the Clock Control Unit. After that, it's simply a matter of remembering that turning the Tune knob left adjusts the hour forward 3 at a time, while turning the Volume knob right adjusts the minutes back 7 at a time. Super simple.
It is ridiculous when manufacturers make functions so hard. I did not see the part where you must stand on one leg outside the vehicle while putting your pinky finger in the cigarette lighter port…

The worst is when you have a dead battery and are still pizzed at that and then realize you have to set that stupid clock.

My son works nights. He complained about having to work an extra hour because of the time change. So at 1am I texted him informing him that he’ll be working the next hour all over again. Then I texted him at 1:59 and told him he’s about to do the 1AM hour all over again, and told him I’ll be going to sleep about an hour ago, while he works. He asked if I stayed up just to tell him that. I said, of course! Then wished him a good night.

This is the number one reason to have kids. So that you can pester them when they’re on their own.

Mine isn't quite that bad! BUt I seem to recall the time change on my Audi's was kind of complicated.

Totally agree. People are always saying that and I never know if they really mean Standard or Daylight Time.

Then, back in the day when most of IN didn't change, I had a guy who would claim there wasn't "EST" when I told him we did not change and stayed on EST when other States were on EDT. He tried to claim we "moved to CDT" for those months of the year.

Glad you found a writer whose opinion you like.

At the end of the day, when presented with a choice of changing clocks twice or the sunset an hour earlier than we now have, most working families, I know, want that evening sun.

Sleep experts want to get rid of daylight saving time

What they're saying: "Essentially, standard time is what keeps us sane, despite the short days of winter," Karin Johnson, a professor of neurology and sleep medicine specialist, tells Axios.

Yes, but: Some people conflate problems of more darkness overall with the changing time zones.

Reality check: Daylight savings doesn't "save" any daylight in the spring and summer, but instead pushes sunrises and sunsets to an hour later, and further away from our natural circadian rhythms, says Johnson, a co-chair of the nonprofit Coalition for Permanent Standard Time, which is supported by a number of sleep medicine and research organizations.

Meanwhile, standard time makes it so the sun is nearly directly overhead at noon, which is most aligned with our body clocks, Johnson says.

The time change is still ignorant. Part of the reason was farming. Makes no difference to them anymore. Have you
seen them harvesting in the dark? Their machines light up the area like a sports stadium.
