Simon Malls want you to get shot by a gang banger that the mall cops are too scared to pat down for their illegal weapon and make you a victim like CHicago.
I take solace in the fact that in malls I am protected by Gecko45 and his like-minded rapid response force who can take care of any threat and put everything five-by-five in short order.

LOL! Too bad not every mall has a gecko45.
I'm pretty sure they all do! I've seen some pretty tacticooled out mall cops at various malls. It's funny they have maybe 2 grand worth of tactical gear on, and no gun! We all know in our hearts that gecko45 has never really handled an honest to god real gun. Every time I see a mall cop, I always think to myself "I wonder if that's gecko45".:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Mall cops are not that good and I have no confidence in their ability to do anything but fill out shoplifting reports for the stores. I always cc so as not to alarm the soccer mommys.:D

Question: What is the legal ramifications of discharging a weapon in self defense or defense of another if occuring on private property that the owner has declared no guns allowed(in this instance, one of Simon Properties malls with the "rules" stated in the code of conduct)? I can see this being problematic...

Went there on the 3rd with my wife, daughter her boyfriend and a friend of theirs. Decided to OC in the mall. Was in the mall for about an hour before mall cop noticed and decides to "call it in". I was looking at a sleep comfort brochure when an IPD officer slides up and says "Sir I need to you keep you hands where they are and follow me". Ok, no worries. I end up in a service hallway with a total of 4 FOE. After a couple minutes they bring in another guy who was OC that day, he has a baby with him that looked to be a couple months old.

Head FOE takes my gun, and my license to call it in. Tells me that this is private property and that I can't OC in the mall. I responded with the I didn't see any posting as I entered about no firearms, if I had I would have concealed it. As this was a school or government building I could OC. FOE states there is signage at the entrance, both myself and the other guy state we did not see any sign, else we would not be walking around OC. FOE states we shouldn't OC because it makes people "nervous". Long and short of the story is we are escorted back to our cars. On the way out I chat with the officer about the situation, honestly he seemed a bit embarrassed but nice enough We leave out Sears south entrance and I look around at the wall and doors. I asked the officer if he noticed any signage, his reply was no. I asked him if he thought how this played out was wrong, policy was the response.

On the way out I told the FOE that I had 2 young men, gangbangers, stare me down and grab their waistbands. That is why I carry.

So, I managed to make my daughters birthday out memorable, dinner at the Cheesecake Factory was great.:rockwoot:
Sorry it went down that way for you. I hate places where a lot of people are at, they screw everything up.

So wait, you just handed over your gun and let them call it in? Isn't that a violantion of yurnrights, private property or not?

I there yesterday. A total of 4 guns were concealed.

I've had a similar issue just for a neck knife being exposed so I can only imagine the whole gun incident.
I've also had issues with hats at that mall.

Was he Paul Blart, that mall cop?

But you found out the hard way...all Simon Malls apparently have a metal sign by the entrance. On it with small print most likely at the very bottom. I haven't checked since I've became a gun owner. I plan to CC mostly everywhere.

Do tell, how did you know those 2 young men were gangbangers? Did they have t-shirts that said "bloods" or "crips" emblazoned across the chest? Were they throwing up gang signs as they walked down the hallway staring at you?

And what in the world does grabbing a waistband mean?

    -OR-

hey, perhaps they were responsible young adults who you just happened not care for the look they had. Perhaps they were card carrying LTCH holders who were CCing at the time. Perhaps they looked at you and thought "well he's about to get kicked out."

But nevermind, I understand exactly what you meant by that part of your post.

There's no reason for anyone to be carrying openly in an environment like Castleton Square Mall. Carrying a gun is a right that also comes with the responsibility of being able to make mature decisions regardlng its exercise. Carrying a gun openly in a shopping mall is not a mature decision. It's not what responsible gun owners want from anyone.

Grabbing their waste band? Oh, you know what! I bet their pants were falling down.

Though I am inclined to agree, it is a person's right to OC (if a property permits it). I personally am firmly in the CC camp, but acknowledge that those that wish to make a statement concerning their 2nd Amendment rights should be able to do so.

Care to give me examples where OC would be a mature decision, according to your world view?

I'm not sure what you mean here.
Maybe, it's not what you want.
I've been a responsible gun owner and carrier for 20 yrs. Been shooting for around 35 or so years.
    And I don't see what's wrong OC'ing in a mall.

Yes, their property, their rules. So I don't OC at a mall.
But the basic premise of OC at a mall. How is that "not a mature decision"?
    Because Hollywood told us?

"It's not what responsible gun owners want from anyone." Don't assume your beliefs speak for all "responsible" gun owners.

I've know Simon malls aren't gun friendly for years. A Few years ago some DA let his hand gun fall out of his holster in the Food Court at C.S. and a round went through the ceiling. But they probably had a no gun policy before that. I CC anyway. I've never paid attention to the code of conduct posted. But when my wife and I went to see Safe House this weekend (very good movie) I noticed a no weapons sticker in the lower left corner of each door of the AMC Theaters.

The only mature decision is to simply avoid businesses that do not share your values. Flaunting their rules (OC) or sneaking around (CC) are BOTH rather immature. Either respect their rules or go somewhere else.

Personally, I find the assertion that concealed is somehow morally superior offensive.
