Carpenter Bee Season 2024

Carpenter Bee season opened at our house today.

Henry Garden Gun with 22LR shotshells. Few things more fun than a sunny day, sitting on the porch and an endless supply of big bees and ammo.

They’re surprisingly difficult to shoot down without a good shot. Highly recommended fun on a Sunday afternoon.

in related news, Menards has a pack of 2 badminton rackets and birdies for $6. Picked a set up today.

Mine move too fast to shoot. with shot/bug a salt or spray.

Have my garden gun and ammo at the ready, but haven't witnessed a proliferation of targets...yet...

I picked up one of these last year and it caught a few.



I put a reminder in my calendar to spray the barn, deck, dock, and gazebo down with DemonWP in the spring. I sprayed a few weeks ago and haven't seen any yet this year.

I’ve got some homemade versions of those. They do work but there’s always a few that must bee just smart enough to avoid them.

I started shooting mine with .22 birdshot out of an H&R revolver. First three shots were three kills, then one little bugger survived my three attempts on his life. When you shoot them, they come spiraling out of the sky like a downed jap zero.

I have an oversized tennis racket from the 70's. Yesterday, I put 6 players from team Bee on the permanently disabled list. You have to spot & stalk to get within reach, and maintain discipline to score hits.

I got new ones this season, $1.5/pc at Dollar General.
$5. Lasted me several years.

I think we all got a bit of cancer just looking at that picture.

Then use permethrin. I spray it on every piece of wood construction on my property twice a year.

I was also using a racket but lost in the move 5 years so settled with fly swatter that didn't last long. We also get those bigg Japanese beetles. Those things are are hoot to see how far you can hit them. Wiffle bat is fun but gives quite the work-out.
