I have a friend who just received his LTCH 2 weeks ago. He is 20 years old and wants to purchase a pistol from me. Can I sell to him if he isn't 21. My understanding is that private sales are okay before the age of 21.

As I understand state law, as long as you have no reason to believe he ought not possess a gun (felon, drug user, domestic batterer, etc.) and he is a resident of Indiana, 18 years old (the buyer's age) is the minimum age at which you can do business with him.

Private individual to private individual with a hand gun and both being citizens of the state of Indiana you are good to go. If he got his LTCH then I'm going to assume he's a proper person.

Now whatever you do, don't buy a gun for him.
If he is buying something that you have, cool.
If you are buying something in order to sell it to him, no Bueno.

you have too be 21 to purchase ammo right? So you might have too sell him some ammo too.

    Not necessarily.

No "pistol" ammo to someone under 21 from an FFL-holder.

If the hardware store down the street happens to sell ammo but doesn't have an FFL - then it's legal.

But I admit it's difficult to find a place that retails ammo that isn't also an FFL-holder.

Yeah, that whole Rife/Pistol ammo thing is funny.
Since there are rifles that shoot "pistol" calibers, and vice versa.
