Rule #3: Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Guess what? It applies to weed whackers too.

I had some dead weeds I wanted to take down before spring. Plugged it in, reached down and picked it up not realizing that my hand was on the trigger.

That's gonna hurt for a while. And this was through my heavy Lee jeans.

It applies to anything with a trigger, even staple guns.
I've seen people staple fingers together, or to tables.
Seen one guy shoot a 3" nail into his knee because he kept his finger on the trigger and rested the nail gun on his knee. That left a mark.

I'm trying to figure out the contortions that I would have to go through to get the trimmer head anywhere close to my leg while starting my trimmer. Although mine is gas powered. I don't think it would be physically possible for me.

I had just plugged it in and it was lying on the ground. Picked it up to get it into position and my hand was on the trigger all the way up. It actually hit my foot too, but my leather shoe protected my foot.

I'm not sure how it was possible either, but I'm just lucky that way. :)
