Just bought me a .44 mag revolver for the first time and I have a question about the price of ammo. I've received an email alert for some HSM 200 grain .44 special round nose flat point ammo. The price comes to .60 per round for a hundred rounds delivered to my door. Is that a good price? I'm new to .44's so and information would be appreciated.

That's a great round to start reloading. Minimal equipment, not a lot of steps in the process and you could save a bunch of money if you decide you like the round and want to shoot a lot of it.

I know the OP wasn't asking about reloading, but if you have any interest in it, start now. My Dillon setup completely paid for itself in reloading just 44Mag and 45Colt alone. Plus my ammo is tailored to my revolvers and rifles in 44Mag.

When I bought my .44 decades ago Kmart was selling a box of 25 for about 12.50. That was .50 a round a loooong time ago. .44s seem to be pretty expensive. After I bought a few I went to reloading and never looked back.

Yep, .44 is pricey any way you want to look at it. I was reloading before I ever bought my first 44, but it was a no-brainer that reloading was the way to go with it. I wouldnt be able to shoot nearly as much if all I shot was factory ammo. That, and the different 44s that I have all have different tastes in ammo, so I can tailor each load to best suit each ones purpose and preferences.

Freedom munitions usually has a pretty good price on their re-manufactured 44, but it is pretty light. $26/50 but you have to wait for it to be in stock. To really get a deal you also have to wait for free shipping.

I put some over my chrono once and out of a 20 inch barrel it was still only 1100 fps.

I know it is a little off topic from the OP, but I will also join in the encouragement to start reloading. Especially 44.

You can make "bunny farts" with Trailboss that allow a lot of practice time all the way up to full power loads with H110.

Sorry to pile on the off-topic, but the versatility you can unlock by reloading 44 is incredible!
