Whelp...just replaced my krusty rusty waltart grill with a 26" weber. Used it a few time, definitely an upgrade. What lump charcoal or briquettes y'all using?
For briquettes I use Kingsford, for lump I use Royal Oak because that's the easiest for me to get. I have two of them...an older cheap one with some miles on it and a newer larger weber chimney. Shame it took me this long to get the big oneThis.
A charcoal chimney is your friend.
Any suggestions for defuser plate? I did have my eye on the slow 'n sear XL basket, kinda pricy at $150-ish after tax and shipping. Enjoy that Weber, they really are versatile and lots of extras available to help. A diffuser plate will help if you want to do low and slow.
I mainly use Kingsford for the weber. Sometimes the cowboy lump. Just did a restock. About half what I'd normally buy before I got the Zgrill for smoking

I made one very similar 20 years ago out of a smaller grate covered in foil set on some baskets. These are the baskets and they used to sell the Weber grates at Walmart. These baskets lasted quite awhile and I actually just replace them a couple years ago.

My biggest problem with the deflector plate that it became a royal pita to add charcoal and wood...Being as you got the 26" I would imagine a cooking grate for a 22" would probably be an ideal size.
