What time of day do y'all find it best to catch them near their burrows, leaving or heading back in?
The times vary. I've had better results between 6 and 8pm but I work 5am to 3pm so that is my time to watch for them. I've seen them out in the late mornings on the weekends

I don't find them too far from their burrows. They generally have more than one entrance to their burrows.

Got this one while mowing this afternoon. As I'd mow around the bottom of the hill he would run back into the grass then come back out when I went over the hill. Drove pass, shut the mower off and sat for a couple of minutes and he came out oblivious to my presence. Shot him from about 10 feet away.

This little guy has been one I've been after a week. Never saw him when I had the rifle with and has been very shy and runs like the Dickenson when he would see either my wife or me around the house. My friend Mr Conibear was a big help with nailing him when he was making the mad dash for one of his holes under my barn.

Do they start hibernating next month? My yard is all kinds of plowed up along the creek. and I still don't know where the holes are.

I kill groundhogs until it gets cold and stays cold. Have shot them in bean stubble as late as November and early December depending on how mild the temps stay. I live northwest of Fort Wayne by about 35 minutes

Picked off another piglet out of the same hole as another one a couple weeks ago. Curiosity killed the ground hog.

Took another one this morning. Just want to mention that I love Sierra Blitz King ammo. Over the years I have shot several like this one. Front on shot either in the face or a good low neck shot and the bullet failed to exit the body length ways. That tells me this ammo literally explodes inside their bodies. When picked this one up to get rid of it I noticed that it was like a bag of jelly.

Thank you Sierra for a very devastating critter getter.

I was away from home when I get this text from my 16 year old.
    -------------------------------
Well, I went outside on the front porch to make my groundhog rounds when I heard some rodent-like squealing coming from the south side of the house. I then hunkered down and grabbed my bat from the chest as the squealing continued. As I headed towards the squealing, I pin pointed that it was coming from the tire over by the little house. I saw the groundhog struggling next to the tire as if it was trying to get into the hole and I sprinted towards it and started whomping as it had no where to go.
