That's why the first three of mine didn't have one. Not for gas mileage though. Saves weight for "performace"
Don't have to work tomorrow
My sump is running overtime. Does anybody use a battery backup system? Or another redundant system? I have a whole-house genny, so don't worry so much about power going out, but do worry the sump might fail.

Would you want the backup to be battery, if you have a whole house gen?
Why not just put a 2nd pump there.
AND put a horn or buzzer in parallel with it, so if the pump starts, the warning will sound.
Otherwise, you'll be running off the backup, and not know that the main isn't working.
Or, just hook up a level sensor (maybe a float) and have that set higher than the pump limits.
Hook it to the horn.
Then, if the pump stops, the horn sounds, and you can put in a portable sump pump, that you keep near by.
There is a reason I live on TOP of a hill . . . no worry about sumps

Better to live in the civilized part of lake county where the massive sewage pipes exist to carry all the rain water and not have to worry about sump pumps.
Me too while they are in the neighborhood. One of our downspouts is clogged up and the last guy who promised he would fix it did not.
