    Hypothetical... If someone was kicking at my front door, and I were to go out the back door, circle around and catch them in the act, would I be within my rights to shoot them?

    I can see the problem with this more in an urban area. Not that it can’t/won’t happen in rural areas.

    I could also imagine the parents suing the victim after any negative interaction with said victim.

    Just hope the little delinquents have good medical coverage if a tik tok happens out here.

    Indiana code 35-41-3-2
    (d) A person:

    (1) is justified in using reasonable force, including deadly force, against any other person; and
    (2) does not have a duty to retreat;
    if the person reasonably believes that the force is necessary to prevent or terminate the other person's unlawful entry of or attack on the person's dwelling, curtilage, or occupied motor vehicle.

    This makes it sound like it would be justified. It doesn't specify whether or not the victim must be inside the dwelling. The victim would be "preventing or terminating the other person's unlawful entry" of their dwelling.

    I read somewhere that a homeowner in Michigan was prosecuted for shooting through his front door at teenagers pounding on the door at 2am

    Something about going Out to meet the disturbance

    "Dont get out of the boat" comes to mind.

    I'd say an overzealous prosecutor would have a field day with that one. "If you were so afraid for your life, why did you go outside to confront them?"

    Shooting through the front door you could at least articulate a fear for your life because you were afraid he would breach the door and then your life would be in eminent danger.

    But what if DoggyMama was inside, and I wanted to protect her, while drawing any possible return fire away from her? I know it's a stretch. Just idle ponderings...
