It lost a little of it's shine when I started playing with .45 Colt, though. And in my 'bad financial decisions' folder, I still have the desire to play with a .45 Super for no reason other than it sounds neat.
Interestingly, a few years ago I put together a Gen 4 Glock 21 to shoot .45 Super / .450SMC a few years ago and set it up to be an in-the-woods / hiking pistol. It's quite accurate and is a hoot-to-shoot, if one doesn't mind a tad bit of recoil. Mine is actually up for sale (not advertising) as I just don't shoot it much anymore...but for an outdoor hiking pistol, or just for plain fun, it's a great caliber!
Meanwhile, I'm simply sticking to carrying a revolver, either a Ruger GP100 in .357 magnum or an Alaskan in .454 Casull / .45 Colt for hiking.

45acp is not impractical, nor is it inefficient. There is no caliber that gets more downrange effect from 4 grains of Bullseye, than 45 acp.

I have two question for the thread:

    1. OP...where did you score the chamber inserts? Briley? (You are fixing to get me in a HELL of a lot of trouble here).

    2. Leadeye, a) where did you score the Broomhandle 45, and b) how do I learn to extract my video game fantasy guns into real life?

I sorted pistols by caliber for sale on Gunbroker. 45 is still the second place by far. (excepting rimfire).
Add rimfire, and its the third place.

40 S&W is just off the list at 7053, and this is with the current flood glut of dumped LE guns on the market now.

I usually carry 9mm and it makes up the vast majority of my small pistol collection. I do like 45 however, especially in a 1911. I have a Glock 30s in 45 and I don’t particularly care for it, I hear good things about the 21, but have never tried it.

I decided long ago it was just easier and cheaper to stick to one-ish caliber for carry gun. Since I am a 1911 guy .45 has been the answer. I’ve never felt an all steel 1911 has much recoil personally. Maybe I’m just not as much of a wuss as the wife says I am?
Well, it is a scientific fact that wielding a 1911 multiplies manliness by a factor of two. So maybe you are a wuss, except when holding the 1911?

I do love a good .45 Auto, and have been told by those who understand the physics better than I can approach that it's inherently more accurate than many other offerings. Not enough to make a difference in anything I'm doing, mind you, but it's there.

It lost a little of it's shine when I started playing with .45 Colt, though. And in my 'bad financial decisions' folder, I still have the desire to play with a .45 Super for no reason other than it sounds neat.

This sounds like an excuse to get an H&K in 45ACP then, nothing extra needed to shoot 45 super. I just saw a MK23 for an even 2k new and am seriously considering it.

I have a 18" (?) 45 Colt insert for my sxs 12. Bought it off ebay

.45 ACP is absolutely one of my favorite calibers. Next to that, for me would be .357 Magnum. For carry, my preference is .45 mostly because it's what I grew up shooting since I was just 9yo. I don't mind a nice 9mm, but frankly the round just looks weak to me just like the .380. Not bashing either of those calibers and I think they have their place. But they really just don't do it for me.
Now, our old friend Churchmouse couldn't believe I when I said this but I have never shot a 1911. I've enjoyed shooting the M&P .45 shield, Sig P220, Ruger P90 and Ruger P345 but just never have gotten around to giving a 1911 a try. I'm confident that I would end up having to spend money if I do try one.
As for the 9mm, well I've tried a few of them and they're alright. Just doesn't have the right feel to me
