To me, it was my Winchester Model 70 - Pre 70 - .270! I stress Pre 70 which means made before 1970 when Winchester switched to production line manufacturing and away from those made and assembled by Master Gunsmiths.
The pre-70s were so accurate at even 800 yards that they were the Sniper Rifle of choice during the Vietnam War. When the military saw mine, they took it and had the stock fiberglassed to prevent damp weather in the wood from causing any shift in accuracy, the rifle's only weakness! I knew instantly where they thought I would serve! LOL

Maybe in the US Army :dunno:,
For the most part the USMC used factory 700 Remington 40X rifles in 7.62X51
In the early 1970s, the USMC armorers at MCB Quantico began rebuilding the original M40s into M40A1s with getting rid of the wood stocks and Redfield scopes.

Even better would be a custom engraved Weatherby deluxe mark V in 270win. I have seen a few. Best one I have for looks/function is a Mark V with a bedded Boyds stock.

For me, it’s the FN-49 Venezuelan variant. Beautifully designed, beautiful wood stock, and an amazingly fun gun to shoot. The only bad thing about this rifle, is when you run out of ammo.

Very nice! I have an Egyptian (7.92x57) which is a little easier to feed. It would be nice to have an Argentine (7.62x51) or one from Luxembourg (30-06)!

I always thought of the Walther WA 2000 as a pretty beautiful gun in the design and engineering. The hybrid of blocky design with wood incorporated and that skeleton barrel shroud thing is like past, present, and future all in one.
