Not sure why you’re against rei? BUT they have an awesome 100% satisfaction guarantee….. 1 year return them if they fail or whatever. Not trying to sell you on the big box store over the mom and pop at all but for someone that’s testing things out and unsure what they are looking for it is very useful.

No issue with them, just that they don't have my size in stock for the La Sportiva boots that I wanted to try. I was hoping to find someplace local to try on the next size up to see if they fit. If not, I'll have to see about picking up a pair of Oboz or Hoka.

Gotcha I didn’t know if I was missing something with REI I like them because they changed my foot life…… my whole life I thought I was a size 12… they told me I was a 13 and everything feels better

Part of my issue is that I can't ever seem to find anything that fits perfectly. Maybe it would be beneficial to go up and check them out. It's not like I can't afford a second set of hiking boots.

Speaking of gear pretty annoyed with darn tough right now….. I filled out a review for my last order and it asked how I identified and gave many options…. Pretty stupid unless people are now having foot surgery to better play their fantasies……

I get a coupon for doing the survey…. I have a credit because I returned socks under warranty with holes in them….. I go to checkout it won’t let me use both… the warranty $$ shouldn’t be treated like a “promotion” too early for this crap. I just wanted to use the stupid things before they expire because I know they count on people letting stuff expire like most companies.

Maybe I just need to finish my coffee

I think I mentioned this before, but once I tried Costco's Kirkland Merino wool blend I don't buy anything else. They do have a men and women's version, but the only difference is thickness. I've seen reviews were men buy the women's version for warmer weather, but I've not found the men's version objectionably warm.

Rusted Moon site says they handle lasportiva or whatever it is.
RM doesn’t have the strongest online retail presence. It’s old school, like old school cool.

I could go down there and pay more for shoes and feel really good about it.
I was there today to pick up my tuned skis which I had prepaid for, and I didn’t buy anything and I wish I had needed something.

Anyway, if your not married to the lasportivia’s they’ll fit you right up with something if they don’t have the next size up.

ETA: if you go tell Jake the CZ ditcher guy sent you. They’ll know. I’m in there 2-3 times a year or so but they remember me.
I believe I was behind you at a gunshot for a very short time. You left a lasting taste in our mouths.
Just once for us and we remember you.

I bath I’ll have you know.
    And change my socks everyday.
    And change my Exofficios sometimes.
But that’s a different thread. Maybe.

And you weren’t behind me, we were face to face, you had a table at that Warsaw thing.

I've avoided REI ever since they threatened Vista Outdoors by suspending their contract over Vista's ownership of Savage and several ammo brands. I don't need anything they're selling bad enough to spend money there. Their reasoning when they resumed the relationship made me feel even better about my choice.

I have taken my wife in to try on boots, but we bought them elsewhere after getting her squared away at REI.

Well any guilt I had about using their “1 year satisfaction guarantee” has been removed thank you

That's what I used to do with Best Buy back in the day. I would go there and look things over, then buy them online cause F Best Buy ;)
I’m not sure why I hate them but I hate them.
I know it has something to do with taking the kids in there 20 years ago to look at games. That, and car stereos that don’t have labeled buttons that do one thing each.

Well…. Not hiking but I couldn’t let this weather stop my 4 mile a day…. So I have been using this hamster wheel clothes hanger… it is torture… I put it at max incline for about half of it for max punishment to spur me to get back outside….

Side note. Hiking has been challenging for me for most of the last year. Fostering has taken over, and trying to take children who have never even seen it dark outside on a day hike has been challenging to say the least. I have taken multiple kids hiking for the day and even camping(car), but it is not cranking out miles for sure.
My trail legs are jello compared to what they were even a year ago. A 20 mile+ day would hurt, were that was relatively easy for me even a year ago. Tough to get back to that level to.

Pics of me on a treadmill lol

You wouldn’t think something that takes SO long to gain / work up to would leave so quickly. But atleast you have a good reason fostering is a pretty worthy cause.

Fitness and getting out to be in nature. I work from home so I'm almost always inside, sitting at my desk, or reading. Great to get out, do something that gets me moving and able to be in the woods.
That's the difference right there, getting away from the hustle-n-bustle of the daily life and rejoining with nature, while doing physical exercise...there's even study's out that show multiple mental-health benefits from physical exercise and being out in nature.

    IMPROVING MENTAL HEALTH

Physical health can be greatly improved by hiking—and so can your mental health. Research continually shows that spending time outdoors, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, contributes to a healthy mind. A 2015 study from Stanford University found that time spent in nature calms the portion of the brain linked to mental illness and reduces your mind’s tendency toward negative thought patterns. Similarly, the journal “Environmental Science and Technology” published study results showing that outdoor exercise has a direct correlation to greater feelings of positivity and energy and fewer feelings of tension, anger and depression.

Walking on a treadmill has the opposite effects.
