And Al Sharpton is talking about qualified immunity. It is disturbing.
Only positive here is that it’s not racism, it’s just the unchecked authority of the police.
I also had to look it up. Never heard of it, certainly never thought it. Just 5 bad guys as far as I’m concerned. I’m as pro police as one can be.Call this an in-thread warning: this is an important thread for the discussion. DO NOT try to turn this into an ACAB thread.
I would take those words for what they say.
Hard to weed people out with lack of funding, lack of applicants, and not to mention the pro criminal legislation being pushed.I haven't really kept up with this particular story but unsurprisingly, police forces have bullies and just generally ****** people on staff just like every other profession out there.
Admittedly, those folks may be drawn more to the law enforcement profession vs some mundane desk position because they see it as a better opportunity to wield power, etc.
Our law enforcement agencies just need to start being more proactive and better at weeding these types of people out which it seems they have been doing over the last decade.
Sadly the Chief of Police said they were all well trained. Had been in the force and trained even more to be on the Scorpion Team. Which has been a success and what the community was wanting. All these 5 were well trained and experienced. And still something went wrong. Add on now the police are saying Video shows there was no reason to even of pulled over the guy to begin with. Then add they also said when going up to his car they started dragging him out, when asking for license and registration seems to of been in order. These were 5 well trained officers that just didn’t want to to serve and protect anymore. This just had to infuriate every police officer out there serving the people.Police have no business being compared to these street thugs who somehow got an approval for city service. Yet they will be lumped into whole vision of “defund the police”, all because a group of idiots want to be apart of something and bring destruction during the night.
The real problem is the useless society creating disturbance to towns all over the nation and allowed to do it without real consequences. Looks like a few useless ones found a shirt that said POLICE on it and thought they were going to be legal thugs. Wonder what kind of justice they will find behind bars.
Well shouldn’t that law apply to bump stocks and braces? There's intentional misinformation spread on qualified immunity because if it disappears cops are even more hesitant to do their jobs. Remember the Ferguson Effect? When the cop did nothing wrong but was crucified anyway and the chilling effect that had on law enforcement across the nation? There are powerful interests who *want* the chaos of law enforcement afraid to actually enforce laws. So they lie about what QI is and make it seem like it allows misconduct to go unchecked. It does not.
What QI *actually* does is give government officials (not just police) the same protection against case law as "ex post facto" gives everyone for criminal law. You can't be punished for a rule that did not exist when you took the action. If a law is passed today changes the speed limit on I-65 to 45mph you can't be ticketed for driving 65mph yesterday, only going forward. If a law bans the possession of more than 6 pieces of fried chicken at a time, the fact you had 7 last week can't get you prosecuted. IP does the same. A police officer searches a house based on existing case law but the court decides to overturn that case law, officers in the future can't search using that old justification but the officer who did before can't be sued for it. Or something new, think of how many questions the Internet brought up for constitutional questions. Who owns your phone records, you or the phone company? What's your expectation of privacy on someone else's server? QI prevents an officer who reasonable believes X is reasonable but the courts decide X-1 actually is in this new uncharted territory to not be held liable due to crystal ball failure. Anyone who thinks it's obvious what the courts will decide should remember the courts often disagree, different judges rule differently on the exact same question, and SCOTUS often has split decisions. If Supreme Court justices disagree on where the rule should land, do you *honestly* expect every patrol officer in the nation to guess the right way on an issue that's unresolved? THAT is what QI is about.
So, if I pull you over and beat the dog **** out of you for no reason, it's clearly established you have the right to be free from that sort of abuse. QI never enters the equation.
Maybe not but it comes out in many press releases.

I could go on but........
I would argue that training likely has little to do with obvious criminal behavior. Choices. They chose behavior that ANY reasonable officer would have found to be unlawful. I'm not sure you can ever train that away. Now I'll get on my soapbox for a minute. Training. LE training is abysmal, even in the best of agencies, for the job they are expected to do. Nationwide. Her "well trained" could be a week of powerpoints, box checking. LE Agencies are notorious for checking boxes in regards to training with no thought on the learner actually LEARNING anything. It's embarrassing quite frankly. I love my chosen profession. I love my Country and fellow citizens. We deserve better than box checking. Now here is the rub. No one wants to be the police these days (for various reasons). So departments are struggling to fill shift minimums and have little extra to support more training time and it's only getting worse. Hopefully the pendulum is swinging back, time will tell. In the meantime, times are tough.Sadly the Chief of Police said they were all well trained. It was almost like they were putting out riot warnings like our blizzard warning this winter. So, I’ve looked and didn’t really find much, did every major city in the country burn like the media was hoping?
I mean, seriously, the “news” outlets yesterday were almost pissing themselves in anticipation of widespread riots.
Mine just calls me Boomer. That's what my kids tell me! They also tell me I need to update my references. I say listen to classic rock, and watch classic movies!
All the progressive twits tuned into CNN to watch the peaceful dumpster fire. And by "dumpster", I mean democratically controlled **** hole cities. So, I’ve looked and didn’t really find much, did every major city in the country burn like the media was hoping?

I'm not implying its easy. Extra people and money would certainly help by making it a focus but there are also folks in there that everyone knows has issues and blind eyes get turned too often.Hard to weed people out with lack of funding, lack of applicants, and not to mention the pro criminal legislation being pushed.
