    ...‘Dont’ say gay’

Last month, House Education Committee Chairman Bob Behning, R-Indianapolis, brought up the possibility of taking up legislation similar to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law.

The law, which made national headlines when it passed in Florida, restricts discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity from kindergarten through third grade.

Taking on concepts such as this isn’t new for the Legislature. Bills targeting “divisive concepts” such as discussions of race and history in classrooms or sexually-explicit content in school library books dominated discussions in the Legislature last year, and led to several hours-long committee hearings. The bills largely died in the Senate last year.

Bray could not say whether the Senate has an appetite for such legislation, nor how it would fare among senators.

He said though that labeling such legislation right away as “Don’t Say Gay” gives it a negative connotation that may not be accurate.

“I think the House is working on something that says that for K through third grade, it’s not the appropriate time for schools to educate about sexuality, which is probably true, I’d rather do that with my kids,” Bray said.

On the House side, Mayfield also believes giving the bill a name like that is a misnomer...

"Don't say gay" is a mal-descriptive label applied to legislation that a particular lobby vehemently opposes for nefarious reasons. It turns "let's not teach <10yos about the far borders of human sexuality" into the direct attack of a socio-political hot wire.

    Bring it on.

I have seen these school surveys for inclusion, race, etc. Do you feel you're an aggressor or a victim? I've told them write neither if that's the case. Don't let these wackos brain wash you, think for yourself. Also it's now a fad to be gay, bi, whatever. Stick to math and science. Don't have these conversations with our kids. I hope there is was a way to sue the schools for mental damages.

K-6 it should be, and after that it should be about biology not mental health problems.

Wait until they go to college, and there they can get brainwashed with destructive communist propaganda.

    K-3 is better than nothing.
What kind of penalties or fines will there be to make sure Groomers don't just disobey the law, and get a slap on the wrist, and continue to do as they want?

I'm sure there's a statistic coming about how many suicides could have been prevented if overtly-sexual topics were being engaged in K-3...

You know what? If they were going to commit suicide because 4th grade was "too late" to breach sexuality in the classroom, then those kids (all one of them) were goners, anyway.

We have a 2023 Legislative Session thread in the Legislation of the 2nd Amendment sub-forum. If someone wants to start a "2023 Legislative Session, Other Than 2A" in Gen Pol I'll make it a sticky thread.

It sounds like emotions will be running high this session once again.

Who are these people that believe teaching a 1st grader about sex is appropriate? The child is still ordering from the kids menu. Their favorite color changes daily. Some might still want the nickel in stead of the dime because the nickel is bigger. And adults, somewhere, believe it's their place to inform Timmy, who still believes in Santa, about sexuality? Lubrication, technique and consent??!! **** these creeps. It's sick. It's perverted. It's wrong. WE shouldn't need a law. The fact a law must be written fully exposes the abject moral failing of a society. This child/sex/distortion **** has gone too far. The resolution should come from us, not legislators.

It’s grooming. You make people find disgusting things less and less disgusting when you can make the disgusting thing seem normal.

Why should any of this be taught in the schools to begin with? I thought it was pointless 56 years ago teach sex education in the schools during 7th grade.
Sadly, if the schools don't, many kids will never get anything outside of porn. If sex education consisted only of the biology of sex (in humans/mammals), the science, then we're good. At a proper age to understand of course. Just like many here advocate gun education in schools to help demystify guns and encourage safety, sex education should serve the same end. Demystify a biological process and help kids make better choices.

It's absurd this even needs legislation.

Society should at least be able to agree on not sexualizing children, much less mutilating them. The fact that opposing such is now controversial makes me question how this country can claim any moral high ground anymore.

As far as the bare bones of biology, that's a different matter. At the right age, kids knowing what repercussions their actions can carry is a positive thing.
