Let start by saying I'm really ok with being disconnected/ outa touch, just every now and again I need to hear from others to make me not feel so isolated .

Ok here we go......I avoid talking to most people.....

I try to slip out of church without talking to anyone, because I honestly dislike football and the people who worship the game. I hate having to defend myself because I don't like football. Im just and idiot in there world,, but I can change my own (flat)tire with out having to call road side assistance , but I'm the idiot just ask.

I try hard to avoid answering the question of "so you raced cars?" After answering yes, I raced alcohol funny cars, the blank looks are in full force, then I get asked "you didn't drive a "stocker" on the dirt?" I answer, no I drove alcohol funny cars (and a couple JR fuel cars) my best guess is these None of these people could understand mechanical fuel injection, and aren't impressed with someone who can do the math behind the fuel curve in his head. But I'm an idiot just ask

I honestly have no idea who "so & so" is I don't follow pop culture, I don't watch much TV, I don't listen to a lot of music. I don't care about over payed actors/ actress and what they think about anything thing. There so important, they play dress up and pretend to be important. I do know current events that will impact our lives and I'm prepared for it,, but im stupid just ask.

I don't worship my lawn like my neighbors do. These people are insane, from sun up to sun down (unless football is on the TV) there out worshipping there lawn. Mowing 4 times a week, trimming the bushes, propping up the flowers ect....but I have to hear how if I just would stop working on race cars, and mow my grass every day, how much better my life would be.

I avoid talking about my hobby of building model engines, no one can fathom. 002 of and inch and how missing a dimension by that can scrap the project, I have to hear "you need a hobby" ....that is my hobby. But I'm stupid...

I avoid telling people I'm a high power competitive shooter, that's not a competition, there is no ball involved. I train, I practice twice a week, and shoot 3 matches a month (warm weather) there is talent needed for that. You need to take up football, now that takes talent. Ahhh, screw you.

I avoid telling people what I do for a living, I'm a tool and die maker. No I don't build screwdrivers & hammers. Morons......if we get part the fact I don't ride a desk for living, I'm asked what my shop builds, we are our own OEM building race car suspension parts, I then hear, oh race cars, can't find a real job can ya? It's OK I'm the super of production and I do engineering, maybe I should go worship a football lawn, court, playing area......

Thanks for letting me rant, now if you'll excuse me, the 9 year old wants her daddy , and I find your thoughts and questions much better then 99% of the adults I interact with

Dude, I totally understand where you're coming from. I get the so you race? Or from someone I haven't seen in a while, so you still doing the racing thing? What kind of car is it again? When you say an outlaw pro street car, I then have to explain it's very similar to what you see on Street Outlaws except I only race at a track. Now, in fairness due to inflated costs we are running it as a bracket car in SuperPro.
I'm not into competitive high power shooting. But I'm into trap shooting so I get the looks as if they think I have bugs crawling out my ears. And I have to explain it, followed by explaining no not everything involving a clay target is "skeet" and that is actually it's own sport.
I usually catch a bit of football on Sunday afternoon but don't follow enough to hold any drawn out conversation about the latest happenings. Oh and yeah my lawn is a lawn not a golf course and I do not manicure it as such.

This feels like one of those situations where some jerk from the internet might say something mean like, "Sir, this is a Wendy's..." But I'm not mean, so I won't say that.

I talk to more random dogs than random people in person.

No reason to defend yourself for not being interested in pop culture or sports. Ask if it's "pointy sportsball" or "bouncy sportsball" and they get the message and leave you alone. As far as people not knowing your niche, that's kind of to be expected as well. They aren't idiots any more than you are, or at least not for that reason, they just have different interests.

I'm not trying to be a dick here. It tends to happen on its own. So let me throw out my take.

I person who refused to engage in the general culture (even a little bit seems) has a hard time connecting with people who do, and therefore feels alienated and put down by those individuals.

If I had to guess. Part of the issue with finding people to connect with you on your terms is your lack of engagement.

No one understands my job. Most folks haven't understood my job title since like 06.

If I say "I'm a senior Linux admin" I get blank stares. But if I tack in a follow up with context I get fewer. Something like "I'm a senior Linux admin...Linux is just another operating system like iOS or Windows ita just more specialized"

People tends to have a better understanding then we can chat.

So if you say "I alcohol ****ed Finny's cars " people hear "I race beer fueled clown cars"
But if you said "I race alcohols fueled funny cars which is basically blah blah which is kinda like sprint cars or highly tuned wada wadas "

Or whatever. If you refused to meet people half way they tend to refuse to meet you half way.

    Just my thoughts.

They won’t leave me alone, they just keep talking about it like their many words will make me more interested.

That’s the nicest thing anybodies said to me all day. ;)

ETA: concerning pop culture, I haven’t watched more than a half hour of broadcast tv since before last planting season, no news, no nothin’ (have watched some Netflix and prime), until last night, heard that Steve Martin and Martin short were going to be hosting SNL. I added about another half hour and kinda broke my record. Wasn’t worth it, that’s for sure.

Everyone has hobbies. You race cars, build model engines, and shoot stuff. Not everyone is going to get it.

They watch fooseball, maintain their yards, and follow pop culture. Obviously you don't get it.

You aren't an idiot for spending your free time focusing on your hobbies, just like they aren't idiots for following theirs.

I don't get people who gamble, or who play fantasy football, or March Madness. But I don't begrudge them for it. They probably wouldn't understand my hobbies either.

Just seems like you're a little too worried about other people. Just do what you love. And understand that there may be many who don't understand and/or find the same enjoyment from your particular hobbies.

I have zero interest in pop culture. The only sport I have any real interest in is racing and I'd much rather spend an evening on the garage floor than trying to talk to someone into pop culture.

Maybe this is why I've been on INGO so long. My kind of people hang out here

Try explaining One Lap in a Kia rio to people. Or sundae cup. Or just owning a manual trans 1 of 400 Kia hatchback. Talk about a leper.
