I'm heading out to be herded into a flaming death sky tube after, with any luck, a good probing, this evening.

Death sky tube failed to kill me. I chanced the underground death tube, also survived.

I watched Elvis movie and Bohemian Rhapsody on the flight. TAP is comfy. Flight was not full. Empty seat next to me. Mid grade economy had plenty of leg room. Clean. Food wasn't bad.

Nap time, though.

Just don't try to eat beef in Switzerland, unless you want to pay near-Wagyu prices for conventional (albeit tasty) beef.

Beef in Ireland was delicious, and reasonably priced. All those cows feasting on Irish grass; makes both the butter and the beef better.

I can agree the grass makes the butter taste better but not the meat. US beef is prized because we have grain fed and or finished beef that creates the marbling needed for prime and beyond grades, grass just does not do that. (Know nothing about how they feed or raise cattle in Ireland.)

I said that beef is not as good today as it was forty years ago, for a variety of reasons, and was told beef today is better.

To recap:

I do not enjoy the flying experience today. (Particularly since TSA.)

Beef is not as good as it once was.

The definition of even ice cream was changed.

There is so much to see without flying, one does not need to fly if they do not wish to and can still travel.

What the heck is controversial or tilting at windmills in those statements?

I just do not like crowds anymore. I used to be a food tourist, always searching for great food but alas we have lived through the high water mark for great food. Corporate and government food control has ruined our great food. How so? In 1997 government revised the meat grades, since then meat certainly has not gotten better. Corporations began selling meat by branding rather than USDA grading. Heck, they changed the definition of ice cream, it used to have to be frozen cream with minimum 9% milk fat, now 4% is called ice cream. That is how DQ was able to change the label of a Dillly bar from ice milk to ice cream.

When I talk beef to small restaurant entrepreneurs they all tell me they cannot get a decent steak to sell for $30 with a salad and side. We were far from financially rich, but the grandparents would take us out to decent family restaurants in the 70’s where I I had a lot of great steaks.

So it’s more “things were better when I was a kid “ and really nothing about actual air travel. I really hope I don’t get that crotchety in my old age

Edit: for that matter all the accusations you’ve heaped in me so far you can’t back up. I have not said today is better. I have not said I like where the world is. I HAVE said that we need to spend a little more time enjoying what we have and less time being mad it’s not as good as it used to be.

I will put you donwn as comfortable being herded like cattle, ran through chutes like cattle, being stalled like cattle. Has nothing to to do with “soft”. Most of us here were born and raised with lots of personal space, I cannot think of much of anything I have done that my personal space is so violated.

Some are good with no personal space, I treasure it, but I can assure you, it is not soft…

And that is an accurate description of getting through an airport. Are airports not full of chutes and gates to corral the people to the plane while culling out those not going on the plane?

I like airplanes just fine. But I hate commercial air travel. I remember how much it has deteriorated in the last 30 years. Tiny seats where you can barely breathe. Completely full flights. Fighting for the limited overhead storage space. Often forced into middle seats unless you pay a huge upcharge. Being molested by security for no real purpose. Huge lines at security. Waiting forever in line for boarding. Frequent delays and cancelations. Flying in economy is a miserable experience. It might be worth it to get to your planned destination, but it is miserable nonetheless.

-I said I liked today over anything.
