except that when society/taxpayers have to cover rehab, narcan, hospital expenses, burials, increased crime along with the victims, survivors of car wrecks by addicted drivers, the cops needed to respond, not to mention the children/foster parents/DCS caseworkers, just to mention a few.
    increased crime
Increased crime? People commit actual crimes and should be punished for that.

survivors of car wrecks by addicted drivers,
Not as many as drunk drivers or distracted drivers. I guess you are for outlawing cell phones and alcohol as well.

    the cops needed to respond
Why do the police need to respond to someone who is high?

not to mention the children/foster parents/DCS caseworkers, just to mention a few.
****** parents are ****** parents, not because they like to take drugs

There is no such thing as a “victimless crime” or it wouldn’t be criminal.
Oh really? Where is the victim of someone smoking a joint? The vast majority of people that use drugs are not addicted and do not hurt others with their actions taking drugs.

    Stop subsidizing it.

The nerve of people wanting to do what they want!?
    It’s outrageous!
    Personal freedom is vastly overrated!
    Harumph!
We have had 6 foster children, all special needs.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Cocaine, Meth kids. Unknown fathers, State Aid, Housing, medical care, Bureau of Developmental Disability Services, watched the “parents” in court hearings, Termination of Parental Rights hearings, unadoptable kids.

    Harumph my butt

Just learned students in our district must consent to drug testing if they wish to attend homecoming dance. WTH?

How is this not a 4th amendment issue for a public school to do this?

It's not a 4th amendment issue because it's a voluntary activity and one that has nothing to do with the core mission of education. The equivalent of a 'consentual encounter'.

If it's a good idea or effective or whatnot I'll leave alone, but that's the constitutional question.

How so? It was the way it was for most of human history as well as the history of this country. It's rather ironic that the popularity of drugs didn't take off until after they were made illegal.

So, shall we outlaw alcohol and cell phones?

Where is the crime in someone doing drugs? You cherry pick a few examples of harm caused by some people, but ignore the larger picture and vast majority of people. I know a lot of people that have taken drugs. I know of no one that has committed any crime that had anything to do with that use.

I would posit that mobile devices do way more harm to our children than drugs ever will.

    Single dad here.
Both of my boys were unadoptable also.

Six Special Need Children, sounds like a business.

Again with punish the many for the problems of the few.
The "few" have difficulty managing themselves.

When the "few" have consequences that impact the majority, it become the responsibility to manage the few.

Freedom is not being able to whatever one wishes. In actuality, freedom is so subjective in infringes on everyone's freedom!

The goal is to manage through such obstacles with minimum rule and maximum positive outcomes.

Random drug testing, IMO, does not infringe on one's freedom but rather help maximize an others.
