I had a P3AT back in the day but never paid much attention to its bigger cousins. Came across a PF9 at a local shop a couple weeks ago, brand new condition, forest green with a Parkerized slide for $200 and couldn’t resist grabbing it. Bought a second magazine and a few spare parts for it and still have well under $300 invested (Kel Tec parts are readily available, and cheap!). Turns out it’s a pretty damn good shooter. Hammer-fired, pretty decent sights and a long but smooth and light D/A trigger. I put a Handall Jr.. and the factory belt clip on it and got a Snagmag for the second magazine, and it’s pretty hard to imagine something much more carryable than this combo. Considering the nature of the trigger, dare I say a holster is even optional with this one.

Just thought I would post with all the “latest greatest this-and-that” out there that an older, cheap gun still seems like it can be a nice option for SD.

Had one years ago. Hated shooting it. Whipped the **** out of my wrist. So I traded it off to some young vet.

Wife had one... bought that around the same time I got my shield. Went to the range and shot both. She hated the keltec. I told her to shoot my shield and see if it was any better and then I shot hers. Never has my finger felt that bad after one magazine. She loved the shield so much she bought one before we left the range.

She quickly sold the keltec at the gunshow a couple weeks later.

Went to buy a P11 one day and walked out with a PF9. It's an angry little gun but I really didn't mind shooting it.

Carried it for a year and sold it. Decided that I did like it so found another one and carried it for awhile, with a handall

junior it was a lot nicer to shoot. Then got a Shield 9 and the PF9 had to go.

A year or so ago a guy I know had one for sale with lots of extras so yea I bought another one before I could do anything

with it a buddy saw it and offered an amount I couldn't refuse. Bought it for his daughter and she loved it!!

They make great guns to start with the price point. I still have one strategically staged in an interior wall behind paper mache designed to look like painted dry wall.

    ^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^

A box of ammo in a range trip just plain sucked. Mine was reliable and so easy to carry. But I just couldn't spend the time I needed to get proficient with it.

    Exactly.

Slipped into the pocket easy as hell. Went bang every damn time (much like the chick I'm dating)

But hell shooting it was nothing but disappointing pain(just like a less expensive version of my ex)

I've had one for quite a long time.
It is my favorite conceled carry piece right next to my 642.

The PF-9 rides in a custom holster for my laser sight and it disappears even under a loose T-shirt.

I have found no need to shoot it much due to the cost of ammo but when I did I never found it hard on my hand and I use a firm grip.

It is a close up gun, that is, maybe out to 7 yards or so, it is not intended for say 25 yard range shooting although I have done so. The short barrel loses to much power to be effective at any great distance.

I've never had a complaint with it, it's just personal preference. I got it for a good price and have not been disappointed.

I had one for a while and hated the thing. I am a recoil junkie but shooting that was more like holding a firecracker in your hand when it went off. It also had a tendency to drop mags when fired too

I bought a P-11 in 1999. It shoots great and I still carry it. I also have a P3AT that I pocket carry in the summer. I looked at the PF9, but liked the feel of the P-11 better.

The Sig P365 got sooo much press when it came out, but the P-11 did that back in 1995. If it was striker-fired instead of hammer, it might still be around.

Super light and pleasant to carry. Super light and unpleasant to shoot. A pick your poison situation. Id rather have a little more weight, a little more capacity, a little more ease of shooting

So, like the majority, I'll agree it's not the best conceal-carrying pistol out there. But it's not the worst either. FOR THE MONEY, I don't think anything as good has come along until Taurus' G2, G3, and 4.

I've been saying that for a while, the P11 was the first compact 9 double stack.....except for the horrible trigger... The 365 is the end(?) of the evolution, that the P11 started. No, it isn't a high dollar gee gaw filled gun, it's a working man's truck/car/tackle box gun... I liked the trigger on the PF9 way better than the P11, just never got around to finding the right deal for a PF 9, so my P11 still is my truck gun.....But an M&P9c is whats on my hip, when not at work. I love Kel Tecs, they are fun inexpensive, innovative guns, built for the everyday guy/gals, kinda like Ruger before they got so big....
